to keep these boots?

I think I probably am, but wanted to be persuaded otherwise...!

I ordered a pair of boots from Amazon on Sat, and joined the Prime thing to get them delivered on Mon (as it was the only day I could guarantee being in all day) I waited all day and they never appeared...I spoke to someone that evening who had no explanation and didn't seem bothered, but eventually told me they'd tried to deliver but I'd been out. I checked on the tracking system (which had been blank all day) which suddenly said they'd tried to deliver at 1pm and had left a calling card. I was standing at my front door from 12.50 to 1.10 talking to someone, so this was impossible!
No real apology but they guaranteed the boots would be delivered on Tues, and could be left with a neighbour as I was at work. Cue another day of boots not coming. Spoke to them again Tues evening - they eventually apologised (Amazon tracking said boots had been delivered, but delivery system's said they were still in depot from Monday waiting for me to contact them via calling card...) and said they would send out a new pair Express on Wed so I would have them by lunchtime. Got an email 2 hours later saying there were none left in stock so they would refund me (though when I looked on Amazon I could still click to buy a new pair!)

I gave up...and then this afternoon they were sitting on my doorstep waiting for me! Refund has come through from Amazon now - their refund email did say at the very bottom that if boots did end up coming to make sure I sent them back, or contacted them so they could take the payment again.....I can't just keep the boots and keep quiet can I? Not entirely sure I love them enough to pay the extortionate amount they cost - but part of me also wonders if it will be as much of a huge hassle to return them as it was to get them...

Tell me I'm BU to consider keeping them and keeping quiet...

I can't believe the number of people who say they'd keep them.

I think they should compensate you though. You could have lost a day's pay/annual leave waiting in for the delivery.

Keep them. Amazon don't pay tax in the UK and I'm guessing you do. The boots will go a very small way to redressing the balance.

I would have no guilty conscience at all. This is Amazon after all who recently had to appear in front of the commons select committee to explain how they are managing to evade paying the uk tax.

Keep the boots. Regard it as compensation for completely shoddy service.

I'd keep them. They were left on your doorstep. Anyone could have pinched them. Not your fault.

I did the same thing with a parcel I ordered from Boden. They sent £140 worth of stuff by yodel who then dumped it on my doorstep without a signature or whatever, in plain view of the busy main road.

I was so angry I rang them up and said that although the tracking website said it had been delivered I hadn't received it. They then refunded me and I kept the items. Serves them right.

Naughty but tough. They shouldn't have left it on the doorstep.

Wouldn't bother waiting in all day for them though, give them a specific time on a specific day when you'd be in anyway.

We had this once. DH ordered an expensive coffee machine, direct from the company. Week or so went by and he followed up to see where it was, told it'd been delivered. More chasing, found it'd went to a neighbour's house.

The company asked him to collect from neighbour. He tried for three days, no one answered, then called company back and said it wasn't his fault they'd delivered to the wrong address and to send him a new one.

A new one arrived and the next day the neighbours brought over the original. They'd been on holiday which is why they hadn't answered the door. DH phoned the company and said he now had them both and did they want to arrange to pick one up. They said yes and then did nothing. Figured after five months they weren't going to come get it.

Long story to say I think you should tell them you have the item and they can collect it, but the onus is on them to collect at a time convenient for you. You've been messed around enough.

They were left sitting on your doorstep? So the delivery company can't prove that they actually got delivered. Could easily have been nicked by a passer by so you won't get 'found out'.

FYI I had a similar instance with amazon and yodel. Lower value but said it had been attempted to deliver (they hadn't) then a card saying it had been left in a safe place. There is no safe place (block of flats onto main road!) and there was no parcel. Phones amazon and got a refund. About 10 days later the parcel turned up battered and wet. I kept it.
