AIBU?

To think Kirstie's Vintage Homes duck blind was shit?

Have just watched a bit of said programme and Kirstie Allsop has made a blind using some lino cut in to a duck shape and a bit of paint.

It was absolutely atrociously shit. Seriously if I had as much time to cut out the bloody duck and arse about painting and printing I could have just gone to the shop and bought a blind which actually looked nice.

I have now come away disturbed because it looked as though the guy whose house she is "improving" was doing basket weaving after the break.

If there was any wine in the house I would be drinking it now!

I like Beany tbf. Plus it's a novelty if she is on your TV and not actually pregnant Grin

It really annoys me how TV execs will choose a personality to present something they are clearly no good at. As someone else said, why not use a great interior designer? Should be called ?Kirsty makes twee crap?

There is so much exciting and interesting stuff out there, being done by real designers, who would be great on TV.

Absolutely Cybbo - I can't believe this is having a whole series devoted to it.
Now, a series by an actual interior designer taking you through the process of measuring up, scale drawings, coming up with a design and seeing it through - that I'd avidly watch. But these extended magazine articles are utterly pointless - just buy one of the many books on shabby chic - or read a magazine - don't shove Kirsty on telly to waft around producing shoddy examples.

I have never forgotten the buttony thing she gave as a lovely homemade Christmas gift.

Admittedly I find her home shows to be like a drug...I don't need it, don't really like it but have to give up an hour of my life to see it through to the end and watch just how dreadful her efforts can be!

I couldn't bear that hanging kitchen basket though-looked dead cheap and wasn't 30's at all- and their little DS would have all the plates/crokery/everything off that dresser in a flash....
Her first home show ("pay me lotsa cash to create my own v.v.expensive holiday home") was so aggravating, and I can't belive she's still harping on 3 years down the line about this kind of thing!

The fabric for the blind just looked a bit too twee- if DS had done it, it would have been sweet, but for a middle aged woman to make a cock up like that, especially when you have to look at it all the time when you're in the kitchen- I'd personally want to stick my head in Kirstie's Aga and end it all.....

Those wicker place mats..
I agree most of the stuff looks awful, and the poor people doing the basketry with Kirstie seemed to know they were making something they'd never actually use.

I actually really enjoyed watching last night! I can't say I liked any of what she made but I find it really relaxing to watch!

I watched her first 'make stuff for your house' series and was appalled by the dreadful standard tbh. My mum and I watched it and we couldn't believe the poor quality of most of the things she made; badly finished, poorly sewn etc.

I may be biased as my mum is great at all that sort of thing and taught us when we were little... but seriously when what you see on a programme is all badly finished etc, it looks more shabby than chic and isn't really an incentive to have a go yourself!

"Shit ducks

Dresser will be full of dust and crap

Wicker mats will have food and crumbs stuck in them

Enough Kirsty, please"

agree but think about, do we really believe Kirsty cleans her own house?

she'll have help coming out her ears

I only watched the bit with the blind.

DD promptly announced that she wants one for her bedroom but with ginger and grey cats and asked me how much it would cost to make one Hmm

Think i might chop up a potato for her, chuck her and old sheet and let her loose with some poster paint!! Grin

It was pretty naff though, it looked like there were a row of ducks missing!!

Only caught the end of this - but hasn't this whole shabby chic thing died a death already? Not that you have to decorate your house according to current fashion, but surely we've all read the articles in House Beautiful about buying a. Piece of junk furniture and painting it up? Don't ned a whole --belated- TV series on it.

Can't stand wicker - I equate it with charity shop baskets and Steiner schools.
Loved the tiles, though - who was the designer, Minn?

I couldn?t believe how rubbish that duck print was.
I know it is in to say ?oooh, I?m a typical 1950s housewife? but does she have no integrity! She knows it is shit but thinks, take the money and say nothing.

I really like Kirsty. Some of the things are very beautiful I do think she she needs to think throught the expense of some of the crafts.

Haven't yet seen tonight's episode though.

I love Kirsty she is gorgeous but the things she makes can be a little bit twee.

Glad I didn't miss anything but tuning out then Grin

I might have had to stab my own eyes out at table re-dressing. All that happens to our dining table after PFB is in bed is that it gets wiped and clean, ain't getting nothing fancier than that on a week day night!

Am oddly interested in what/how a napkin rose looks < runs off to hide in modern white lounge > Blush

I'm not enjoying this series as much as the one where channel 4 were paying for her to do her house up Grin

I hope Kirsty and Phil do a Christmas special though, we loved that.
