The tories don't even seem to bother to don the sheep's clothing any more. It's seems to be a systematic co-ordinated attack on equality, from the Health minister'sview on abortion to George Osborne's plans to make employees sign away someof their maternity and flexible working rights if they want a job. Scary, scary times.

Don't mean to change topic, but we seem to have gone off the OP anyway as I don't think many people (any?) have said 'No, they are not misogynistic'.

I always seem to hear good things about Scandinavian countries, but this may just be the media picking and choosing.

It's still a bit like choosing between two bad ex's though.

Have any countries got it right? Is there are party another country has that anyone thinks would do well in UK?

Labour refused to use it's golden share in BAE and allowed them to kill off the civil airliner manufacturing in the UK in 2001 when BAE saw that defence was going to be the big big market with the wars and few were going to buy their civil aircraft.

They allowed BAE to sell the airliner wing manufacturing plant to EADS Airbus so that is the new merger goes ahead and france or germany need a job guarantee their is nothing the tories can do to stop these jobs being lost to the UK either now.

I have voted Tory at the last 2 elections but I'm afraid this employment rights stuff has caused me to throw in the towel. Bonkersness squared. they aren;t even pretending to run the country responsibly now.
If Labour could divorce itself from those directly implicated in the MASSIVE fiscal screw up they caused (and yes they did) they'd have a chance with people like me at the next election. Answer; exile Ed Balls, who is clearly mad, to the outer darkness. And replace little Ed with his big bro. If They do this I think they're a shoe-in in 2015.

Australia is doing well now but it was effected by recession, same with Germany.
America are still suffering, Greece, UK to name a few.
Our lack of ability to manufacture stuff to sell is a cause of prolonged recession. privatisation does contribute to it.

Report
NovackNGood · 09/10/2012 21:14

Privatisation was not a problem at all.

Labour allowing companies to register all there exports imports via tax havens to offshore profits to avoid UK tax however is another of Labours many after effects we are all paying for.

Report
NovackNGood · 09/10/2012 21:11

Not all countries are in recession by any stretch of the imagination at all.

Report
monkeysbignuts · 09/10/2012 21:09

novack the recession has effected all countries world wide! How the hell Labour can be to blame I don't know? enlighten me please.
The only counties that are doing well now are those with the ability to manufacture and sell stuff, sadly Maggie thatcher and her cronies privatised all of our sources of revenue. Torys are to blame for the length of time it is taking us to pull out of this recession and they done that about 25 years ago!

The differance is Labour had all the intelligence reports and lied to the nation. Tories had access to nothing. Same re PFI. How many of those dodgy contracts are now not standing up to scrutiny despite how the local councillors and MPS lauded how wonderful they were and look at the bright new hospital which we all now are paying far more for than a commercial loan would have cost.

The anti tories ravers on here come across as the Willard Romney supporters who try to claim they hate Obama for his policies but really they only hate him cause he is black. You Labour bunch loved the tory policies when it was Tony fronting them and turned a blind eye to his elitist background as it was only a Scottish boarding school hed been to. Like you claim to love Ed even though he is from the elite of the Elite and even went to school with Boris and pals then you bleat on about the Tory Etonians yadda yadda ya.

Report
PanonOlympus · 09/10/2012 20:42

Oh I agree Novack - PFI was a monumental selling out of state assets and handing over large parts of our nations future capital infrastructure to wheelers and dealers. It's utterly shameful. Ditto the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Trouble is...on both counts Tories were not opposed to either. iirc PFI was to be financed by companies who are/were Tory donors.

DowagersHump · 09/10/2012 20:38

And of course the tories wouldn't have anything to do with PFIs, would have imposed very strict banking regulations and saved the economy Hmm

NovackNGood · 09/10/2012 20:36

YOu cant pass the buck after a cock up of monstrous proportions and then say ah but the otehrs would have done worse. They were in a minority for 13 years and you had more than enough of a majority to sort things out but instead labour created a debt mountain that was neither invested in infrastructure or the economy.

The labour loons claimed to be building this that that and the next thing, except they were building using PFI nonsense that will burden budgets for decades to come.

Report
PanonOlympus · 09/10/2012 20:33

yeeees Novack - that's rather my point. If it was left to the Tories then the regulation would have been exceedingly slacker and the shit piling up would have been much larger.

POny with you here. Can't ignore what Labour did but feel only option is LibDem.
However I may come around to this as I do feel they have been massively scapegoated and never stood a chance from the get go. They are a bit ideological but then which party isn't?
I guess I am thinking we can't knock it until we try it? Seems unfair that they never get a proper crack at the whip. Can't get much worse!

LOL at labour were princes.

Yeah that is why the allowed Lehmans brothers to cock up so much and they allowed RBS to really mess up and the turned a blind eye to London being the global centre for credit default swaps and derivative trading that lead to AIG imploding. We are lucky the rest of the world is not coming asking more questions and expecting a pay back for bad oversight by Labour.

Report
PanonOlympus · 09/10/2012 20:22

Well the Tories didn't want even a 'soft touch' regulation and argued Labour were being 'nanny state' about it so Tories have no legs t ostand on on that one.

Labour made errors. But they are gleaming princes of economic management when compared to Gids and Conron.

The Tories have no choice on the economic front, the country's deficit is off the scale and if its not tackled we COULD end up like Greece. And Labour did contribute greatly to the mess, the UK was in a strong financial position to ride out the storm until Gordon and co pssed the revenue up the wall and sold off our gold at low value. They also spent billions on immoral pointless wars and brought in repressive laws. Having said that, I am not sure I can vote Tory again after Jeremy Hunt and co. being wnkers, HS2 to destroy our countryside, plus I worry about the disabled being treated unfairly. No one else to vote for though..

Ed Milliband is an Elitist of the Elite playing at politics with no idea of the real world at all.

it was not a global recession it was a credit crisis that overly affected the UK due to the soft touch regulation Labour allowed to infect the city over their decade of power because they were happy to turn a blind eye as they spent spent spent not on capital projects or investing for the future but on buying off their base voters. The capital costs were all dumped on us for tomorrow by labour and their PFI nonsense.

When Tories want Labour to ditch their leader it's pretty clear why. Fear of being stuffed by them.

Tories not a bunch of women-hating, victim-blaming cunts? It's like trying to argue dog shit doesn't smell.

For anyone who mistakingly voted Tory thinking they would solve the financial crisis that Labour apparently got us into, can I just ask? At what point didn't you notice that there was a GLOBAL recession. It would be very impressive if the Labour Party caused that.

Whilst public spending was high, I have seen some of the amazing work and results in the public sector especially with children, families and vulnerable people. I am now seeing those marvellous services torn apart.

Even if the economy was stable and there were no deficit. The Tory's would still be cutting benefits and services to poorer people. They'll have been rubbing their hands with glee at being able to do it under the pretence of fixing the economy. I'm sorry to those of you who have been misled by Dave's big plastic face.

For the record, Ed Milliband is actually a very good politician. People need to stop worrying about what politicians look like and actually research what they stand for and believe in.

FFS, there's about 10 threads on here wanting Boris Fucking Johnson for PM.

Phew, glad that's out me system. As you were.
