In wishing that JKRowling would shut the fuck about her new novel?

For days now the media has been awash with interviews about her new 'adult' book. Every time I turn on the radio or the tv, there she is, giving another bloody interview. She has said she thought about publishing it under a pseudonym but decided to go public. You know what JKR, anonymous would have been a good idea.

I mean, the Harry Potter books are a good yarn but hardly great literature so I am not exactly champing at the bit to get my teeth into her 'adult' offering.

And apparently it contains swearing Shock.

She has called her fictional middle class village with the adjacent sink estate Pagford. Hmm

YANBU. She is one of those people who gets my hackles up. I thought HP was twee and boring. I imagine her book for adults would be equally as thrilling.

I enjoyed the books-saying that the whole story is presented from a single character's perspective which is rather disappointing.

Those books were so long and we were introduced to so many interesting protagonists- why was it always just about Harry? How about chapters on Hermione and Ron bonding? Even silly side plots like Ron emerging as a genius Quidditch keeper. How about seeing Draco's pact with Voldemort? And what about Snape????? He was such a great twisted villain- he needed his own voice.

Yes Exit, I would go for it! It's fast-paced and I found most of the characters convincing and compelling. There are also lots of rather mumsnetty-type themes: school catchment areas, moody teenagers, class warfare... OK, maybe class warfare is not such a mumsnetty theme. Grin

Different writers are good at different things (obviously). JKR's prose style is not particularly poetic; sometimes it's even a little clunky. But plotting and imagination are what she excels at.
