AIBU?

To not want to be treated like a c*nt when I’m buying a mobile phone

Just got new BlackBerry at O2 shop having found the deal I wanted online. Assistant entered details but needed verification code from her supervisor who came over, bristling with Big I Am attitude, and started laughing with incredulity. ?What, 18 months and free BlackBerry? No chance, absolutely no way. Ha ha! Show me where you saw that deal?. Long story shortish, I finally got the site page up on their achingly slow computer system and proved I wasn?t actually lying or mad. Got my phone, got my deal, but still smarting that such a rude little prick can have a supervisors job at a flagship London branch when there are school leavers scrabbling around for work.

He was a knob, yes. But I too am one that is tired of the gutter talk on Mumsnet. Puts me off coming here. (and I know -from having seen other members replies when this has been brought up - your immature answer will be... 'well, don't come here then'..) but honestly, this thread would probably get more feedback from other members were the language not so foul.

If I were you I would write a letter to customer services HQ. They can't talk to customers like that.

YANBU not wanting to be made to feel small in a shop. But why did you go through with the purchase? Sometimes it's a good feeling to explain to the shop why you're not going to be buying their goods... and then go elsewhere. Even if it's only to another branch.

Hatred of collections of letters is so random, it's not true. I think people who hate swear words are numpties. Why is shit, cunt, fuck any more wrong than poo, fanjo (although I NEVER use that) or shag?!?!

I cannot be the only one who thinks hating the word c*nt more then any other is an overreactiob!

OP, Yanbu! Although as soon as I saw cunt and phone in the same sentence I immediately presumed carphone warehouse :o

Actually I think you were wrong to use that word in the title, because he didn't treat you like a cunt, he treated you like a dickhead. As a paid-up pedant, I feel these shades of meaning should be preserved....

No worries, Sherrie

Realise that the title was less of a question than a rant.

Sigh. That headline has got me in more shit than every other misinformed comment I've ever hastily thrown onto this site.

I'd have been annoyed too but then again I hate been called a liar which is what he implied.

It sounds more like this supervisor treated you like an idiot rather than what you said.

Manager was v nice. Initially said that the deal wasn't on their regular website so guy couldn't be blamed for not knowing about it straight away. I agreed and said it wasn't that he didn't know, it's that he made me feel like I was a chancer trying to pull a con!

YANBU, phone shops and computer shops seem to have more than their fair share of arrogant pricks.
What did the manager say when you complained?

Report
proudfoot · 05/10/2011 16:21

YANBU

He does sound v rude and I'm not sure why he is so shocked that the deal would include a free Blackberry Confused I recently got a free Blackberry on a really cheap contract with Virgin Media so it is not that unusual. He should know his store's deals and products and treat customers with respect so I would also have complained.

You both sounds as rude as each other tbh.

MrsLadywoman · 05/10/2011 16:08

I've always used that word. Sorry, but if you don't like it, don't enter the thread. And I did use an asterisk...

I think It sounds like a fairly insignificant issue in the grand scheme of things. You were served by an idiot. Big deal, move on.

I think YABU for using such an offensive term over something so small. Or maybe I'm BU for being offended by the increased (and blasé) use of such bad language these days.
