To be annoyed Harry Potter World is in the US and British books being made into American films?!

I was pretty annoyes when I found out Harry Potter World was being made in America, on my children's behald obvioulsy, ahem. Am also annoyed that so many books set in the UK are made into American films, was really looking forward to 'I don;t know how she does it' coming out, only to watch the trailer and see it's set in the US. Same goes for Roald Dahl's 'Matilda'. Can't think of any other but am sure there are loads!

I live within 5 minutes drive of the Dursleys house and also the woods where they filmed alot of the last film.
Every time we go past the house..my kids say can we go see Harry Potter lol

A British clause JK missed eh? The real coup was having all the films made in Britain with British actors. Fabulous. Besides we still have the filming locations.

I have been to Wizarding World of HP this summer and it is amazing. The attention to detail is immense and the rides are fantastic. It;s part of one of the Universal parks and reuses some of the land and rides that were there previousy, and some additional bits. It really has been very very well done. Hogwarts s great to walk through and the ride is stunning. DD adores walking through Hogsmead and her trip to Olivanders and having a wand chose her is still fresh in her mind.

I did read that there are or were some talks of having a WW of HP over here also. Not sure how far they have gone into that though.

I do hope to take DD to the studio tour next year though. I am sure she would love it.

I agree with FerretMum, there is no way us Brits would have done Harry Potter World justice, it is mindblowing! I was awestruck when we visited back in february.

English theme parks are not cool. No one travells 10 hours on a plane to go to an English theme park, I agree with you about Amercanizing books though. Although that thread was done 2 days ago!

FWIW I agree with you. And would love to see Alnwick castle. A friend of mine is actually doing a study-abroad program right now and is living there for six months.

I also think the decision to change the location of I Don't Know How She Does It is a terrible one. It seemed like such a London story to me! (As far as someone who's never been to London is concerned, anyway :) )

Leaveston studio tour is going to be so much better than HP world. Don't get me wrong , if I could afford to go I would, and I know I'd love it. But for me, there will be something truly magical about walking in Harry's footsteps. The tour will last 3 hours so there must be loads to see.

I'm sure threr will be a cafe selling butterbeer.

We don't need a fake, concrete, commercialised Harry Potter World though. We've got the real thing - Alnwick Castle, steam railways, historic buildings, beautiful woodlands. You just need a bit of imagination and to be prepared to travel outside of a condensed 'Potterised' area which is probably going to be heaving with American brats anyway!

Do you have any idea how much it cost to develop th Wizarding World of Harry Potter? JKR was demanding it be so faithful to the books (a good thing) that Disney pulled out of being involved. I do not see any theme park in the UK or backer being able to plunge the huge amount of money into a project like that.
A lot of films are made here (a lot of HP was) but they need US money to fund them, and provide distribution etc. Actually I think next summer there is going to be an exhibition of sets etc. from HP in the UK. Perhaps if the UK had the giant film production companies and the money the US companies have, perhaps these films would be made here. The UK just doesn't have the infrastructure, sorry.

OP, YANBU. Matilda was the one that really pissed me off. I actually happen to think the film was decent, but definitely lost something being American. It should have been British.
