went really skinny/tattooed. She looked good when she was plumper too. But on Sky News they're talking about her as if in recent years she looked like a raddled old witch. Obviously there are some ace pics, but still...I think she looked great.

Did she write for others too? Or just her own stuff?

That picture pictish linked is just shocking.

Poor lass, RIP.

I thought she was amazing. Though I wouldn't adopt it myself, I love her 'look' when she was in her healthier phases. Fierce. What a voice and song writing talent. RIP.

You are right MissPenteuth, and I wouldn't have compared the 2, but was responding to a post someone posted on the subject above. Cancer is a very emotional subject for me, once you diagnosed terminal there is no hope or second chances.

begonyabampot That's terribly sad about the 7yo Sad but I don't see why it's necessary to compare the two at all. There isn't a limit on how much sadness we can feel, it's perfectly possible to feel sad over several things at once without having to dole out percentages.

I think alot of people in the media need a good hard look at themselves - and on here: Who cares what she looked like? She was a person and a singer songwriter with huge talent - have we become so vacuous that when somebody dies we discuss how good they looked at avrious points in their 'career' (life).

Thought this was a nicer reflection on her life, and music www.dragonanswers.com/2011/07/25/in-memory-amy-winehouse-best-acoustic-videos/

She didn't look good at all, and it's astonishing how much older she looked. Her lifestyle aged her dramatically.

I still feel sorrier for children who are dying of cancer. I know of a 7yr old who is dying now and everything that entails - I can't compare the 2 in my mind. I wish she hadn't died and it's sad for her parents but i feel more sorrow for this 7 yr old and the young many Alex on TV the other night who fought against cancer and died at 22 yrs old.

Raddled old witch? LadyoftheManor?

Gosh. What a lovely thing to say about someone who has just died Hmm

Begony, addiction is an illness as well, you do know that, don't you?

TBH, I guess I do have more sympathy for young people who have died or are dying with cancer. It's sad for her family and parents.

Can't believe the lack of compassion about her death on other sites. Apparently because of the drug & alcohol abuse she deserves less sympathy than people who have died from cancer etc. I agree that some people don't want/deserve to die but she was young & she has parents.......Sad.

Destructive is the word Greythorne - so many rock stars have been corrupted by their own image.
I've been reading a lot of music biogs lately of the big rock stars of the 60s/70s - it is a miracle any of them are still here. Drug abuse on an industrial scale. The myths and legends of the rock business are so deeply pernicious. Poor Amy (and the parasites around her) bought into it lock, stock and barrel. That Camden scene has a nasty underbelly to it.

She looked good when she was in St Lucia and was away from the fame and the paparazzi.

Yes, quite right. She became more distinctive looking, behaved in a much more extreme way, singled herself out....which changed perceptions of her and probably her own perceptions of herself.

Her original look was healthy and not quite 'pretty enough' to be a mainstream beauty. The change of appearance and lifestyle meant she became at once more fascinating to Joe Public and more destructive.

Again yes recently she was starting to look so much healthier and better and I thought that she had beat the drugs. You must need your head read if you think she looked good a few years ago, looking like a human skeleton and so ill and ravaged

I watched a clip of her doing Rehab on Letterman - she looked amazing - and healthy. Panto sized beehive and hooker heels and a stunning cocktail dress. She was tattooed up to the nines and looked every inch the megastar.
And she sang like a dream.

The prison ink/beehive was an incredible image change for her and it worked so well for Back To Black.
If she had remained the unconventionally pretty plumpish nice Jewish north London girl she was for "Frank "she may well have slipped off the radar.

I think people are getting confused between the image of junkie/prison chic and the person herself. Although of course it appears she may have been confused by it too.

I'm not saying that being druggy is a good look. Just that she had such distinctive and expressive features and they were not ruined by drugs. Obviously there are a number of pictures where she looks sacrily ill but even a few days ago when she was supporting her friend onstage she looked lovely. I'm genuinely surprised more people don't agree with me.

But agree that she was far too thin when she came back with Back To Black. Such a shame...

Have you seen her at the start of her career LOTM? She had a great figure.

Report
LadyOfTheManor · 24/07/2011 15:26

I think she looked like a raddled old witch. I don't find the "boy figure" works all that great on full grown and would be developed women.

BulletWithAName · 24/07/2011 15:21

DP and I think she was a very attractive, if not conventionally beautiful, woman when she looked clean and healthy. She looked lovely on the album cover of Back To Black and in the album sleeve, even though she was very thin at the time.

She looked lovely when she started out, glam and full of attitude.

Over the years, she just went down and down and personally, her mental torture looked like it was played out for the world to see in her appearance.

Emaciated body, extreme tattoos, dirty, sunken eyes, uncared for hair, bloodied feet / ballet shoes are not the outward signs of a punky, sassy person in control. They are signs of a person out of control of their body, their desires and their life.

RIP

Oh do shut up siamo it's not tasteless! To admie someone's style and glamour is fine.Yes she looked ill at the end and for a while before....but when she was healthy shewas bautiful. There's NOTHING tastelss about that!

dissecting the appearance of someone who has just died is tasteless in the extreme and shows the vacuous and imbecilic nature of celeb-gawking in general.
So chat away, but thats how you're coming off when you do it in this manner.
