Me and my dh generally have farting fights - as in who can do it loudest. The kids find it hilarious and disgusting, so i don't know where they got their humour from. We have done everything in front of each other. Farts are so natural and it'd be better to fart than to cough in public right now. So i don't see why letting out gas is such a big deal. Lol!

DH and I farther infront of each other whenever we need to. He laughs most of the time, but then he is a man child. DD has just got to the age where she finds them funny too.
It's a normal bodily function, not sure how or why, historically, it's become such a taboo.

donaldtrumpispresident, have you looked up all fart-related threads just to make that same lousy joke on every one of them?

8 yrs in and we have never (intentionally) farted in front of one another. The odd accidental one has slipped out from each of us though. And we live in a modern house with thin walls so I am sure he hears me farting in the bathroom but at least then he can't smell it!

People who watch Eastenders mystify me.

Isn't it marvellous that we're all different? Grin

It can't be sustainable over the course of a long marriage to not fart in front of one another. I can see how in the early months you don't want to do it a lot but people who won't fart in front of people they've been married to for years mystify me...

We fart on each other and laugh! Blush (not intentionally, usually if we're having a snuggle on the sofa etc)

Yes we are childish, but he started it first ... Grin

As long as you don't follow through.

Farting is a way of marking of your territory, dont let him subjugate you! turn it up to 11 and fart in his mouth when hes going down on you Grin

We fart in front of each other all the time, have even been known to playfully fart 'in each other's general direction', but we have a puerile sense of humour. DD(4) announced to us the other day, 'my bum is a musical instrument' Grin

22 years later and I still have not farted in front of DH! He has watched me give birth, been in the bathroom when I am having a wee but I still can not fart infront of him although when he is not around I fart like a trooper in front of the kids Hmm

We're 12yrs in btw and we still don't do it and never will I'd imagine.

It's nothing to do with being prudish, not being 'allowed' or 'having' to leave the room. It's personal preference. And I'm not part of the 'horrified contingent' either. What other people do is up to them. It is purely personal preference. I don't read Heat magazine, drink alcohol or wear make-up either. It doesn't actually tell you anything about me, my marriage or anything concrete at all apart from the mere fact that I choose not to do certain things because it's a choice available to me.

I dont. My DP and i have been together for 2 years (and living together froma month after we met). My exH and i used to do it almost competitively but we became more like brother & sister in the end. So i vowed i wouldn't let that happen this time.
Obviously if one sneaks out or it happens when i'm asleep it isn't a big deal and he teases me a bit, but if i started doing it on purpose he wouldn't like it (and neither would i).
Maybe things will change when we've had a baby ;)

I don't understand peoples opposition to farting. To me it is a natural human body function. Dh and i both fart. The children fart. Funny really becasue my 2 yr old says pardon me, when he burps, but we don't think that much of farting. And do not seem to see it as the bad thing that most of MN see it as.

When my Mum was a nurse she looked after a woman who got internal gangrene from holding in farts (she died by the way). Farts are a waste product and should not be held in!

Define "in front of".

In his presence - ok, fair enough. But don't stand directly in front of him while he's sat watching TV, that's just unnecessary.

Yeah, I'm a serial air-ripper. And he's worse than me. He sounds like a motorbike leaving the garage!

YANBU. I do, though I don't fall about laughing afterwards, nor raise one butt cheek and squeeze one out, nor do it so the neighbours can hear.

Yes, we all break wind, but there are ways of doing it :-)

YANBU. I can't imagine being in a marriage where I had to get up and leave the room when I needed to fart.

But mine don't smell so I don't see the harm

Whereas DH's are revolting.
