Why is Julie Burchill so obsessed with class?

She is a huge Cheryl Cole fan because Cheryl is working class and hates Lily Allen because Lily is from a middle class background.

Most of her articles mention class. Why?

I've read her in the past and she does have some gifts, as a writer definitely, and as someone with a different view sometimes, which can be refreshing, in the beigeness of the middle-class media.

But other times, more recently too, I think she can be a giant bore. I read her article about Lily Allen and it was one of the most boring, stupid pieces of journalism I have read for a long time. She just kept saying how beautiful she (Lily Allen was) and how she shouldn't listen to old journalists like herself ...

She is now a rich, middle class woman - she is a professional writer and journalist and made a great deal of money from property as well.

(If she still classifies herself as working class, then that might be an interesting light on why social mobility has reportedly stalled in UK).

The terms in which she speaks of her drug abuse mean I cannot find her admirable.

Yes I read that piece by Michael White. I much prefer Julie Burchill to his predictable, typical Guardian spiel. I linked the article to show that she is against the majority who believe in global warming. For someone on the left that is very rare.

She used to write for the Daily Mail.

She is not right on many things, but on global warming, she is spot on.

Claig do you actually read the links you post? That article (by a proper journalist, Michael White) actually makes Julie Burchill look like a fool (not that she needs much help), which she is by and large.

Interesting to see you defend a communist btw, your favourite comic the Daily Mail has had a few choice words to say about her in the past as I'm sure you know

Last time I could bring myself to read a column of hers it contained this gem:

I've had five abortions ? or was it six? I can never remember. And each time I saw scenes bordering on jubilation when women woke up and realised the deed was done. Of course there are cry babies who go away and beat themselves up. But they're probably the type who cry at romcoms and funerals.

Dont agree with Lilly Allen On much but her recent assessment of her as a An attention seeking bitter old troll seems pretty much spot on.

Johan Hari is from a wc background and often has sensible and cogent things to say about class.

I take it back about Tony Parsons. He is not as bad as I thought. He is not as switched on as Julie about global warming, but with time he may get there.

Im on her side as well. I grew up looking up to her. I dont always agree with her views but, she is witty and bright. I love Miranda Sawyer as well. I think its an age thing.

Many of her socialist views are wrong, but her heart is in the right place. She defends the working class against the hypocrite elitist, millionaire greens, because she understands what they want to do to the working class.

I don't think people talk nearly enough about class - or rather, not intelligently enough about class.

Sadly, i don't think Julie Burchill helps.

I bet that socialist Tony Parsons bangs the drum of global warming. She is made of different stuff.

'Green is the first socio-political movement in which every single leader and spokesperson is filthy rich - they make the Conservative party look like the Jarrow marchers'.

Spot on. She knows her onions.

She has written a book called 'Not in my name: A compendium of Modern Hyppcrisy'. It sounds liek a must read, and the greens feature in it. She is a star. I hope the Daily Mail has her back again as a correspondent.

I think she is fantastic, always prepared to speak her mind. She gets a lot wrong, due to her angry socialism, but she is right about the greens and global warming, not like those global warming pseuds. She knows her onions, and defends the working class against the hypocrite greens. She challenged the green defender, George Monbiot, who is definitely not working class. Good on her. Her flaws are minor in comparison to her correct views.

What is Julie Burchill's opinion on global warming and climate change? I may have to change my mind about her, if she has got that sussed.

I used to quite like her column in the Guardian in a 'I wonder what she's got to say this week' sort of way, which is the exact opposite of the experience I have with Tim Wotshisface who writes the leader column at the moment as he actually churns out the same lot of bollocks every week.

Is Paul Morley working class? I think he is pretentious, like Tony Parsons.

Have you ever heard her voice? She is a playground bully and will pull the "izit coz I'm working class?" at the drop of a hat.
