They are awful.

I am very tall and thin and they make me look like a chubby shortarse.

Plus (and this is the real point I think) I remember wearing one walking tipsy up some stairs and trop on the front of the dress, causing me to stumble and headbutt my own knee.

So, if you want to wear one and look like a boho throwback, be careful.

Yes bibbity, we were all posting like mad.

Dark haired woman in red maxi is stunning too, and I think begins with T.

Was it the dark-haired woman in a red maxi?

If so, she was quite stunning.

I'm 5'3" and 6 months pregnant - I'll admit they look comfy but I'd look like a gazebo.

I remember we had this thread this year and a Mumsnetter came on and said "well I think I look ok in mine?" not in a bragging way at all and linked a photo and she really did look absolutely 100% AWESOME like a model. We were all gobsmacked. I was so struck by her sheer gorgeousness I even remember her name Blush.

I have seen some women look good in them. Usually tall and slim, or young and pretty etc... Ime not really different to anything else in that some look good, some not so good.

I just don't get them. At all. I am fairly tall, quite thin, v. flat chested and my legs are my best thing. So I just can't see the attraction, especially on a hot day. I did actually have a slimfitting one once and it just got wrapped round my legs and outlined the fanjo area every time I tried to walk more than 2 yards. Resolutely ignored them last year and shall be doing the same this year.

I agree getorf
Haven't seen anyone out and about looking good in one.

I hate 'em. But I am small of nork with nice slim legs, so they are everything that is the opposite of what suits me best. Plus I feel like a scruffy bugger in one.
I bought one last year as I was seduced by the print (nice peacocky effect) and and jersey. Still looks shit. I might get it made into something else (pair of curtains?)

Punkpixie Yes, I understand completely; I have a friend with a figure like yours and you're right. My friend looks gorgeous in wrap dresses - they really show off your sort of figure. She always looks stunning in those.

GORGEOUSX- I can't wear slim fitting ones. My boobs are mahoosive and often I need to buy a bigger size dress so they don't fall out. Going a size up with maxi dreses justy makes me look fat because they hang off my boobs and float eveywhere. It is seriusly not a good look on me.

I'd say I look quite good in mine. I'm 5'3 and not exactly thin, but I get lots of comments and I feel good it in.

It shall be worn lots this summer I think....so there.

I think there are different styles of maxi dress for different builds.. eg strapless / elasticated top/ big straps/ A line/ straighter/ different materials
Rather like them myself, not found one I love enough to buy though,
and like everything some designs are vile, but some are fab.

As someone else suggested, if they are a slim-fit they won't make you look fat - unless of course you are fat. Grin
