To want to boycott coop after seeing their stupid new advert..?

What a knob that guy is..! What does he suggest, that instead of doing a weekly shop hi swife should go to the coop every day and by that day's food... for the family to live of almost out of date fruit and veg and a questionable chicken pie?!

Who wants to shop every day?

What's wrong with Ocado anyway?

Not seen the ad but boycott the Coop for various reasons, the main one being their only stocking Danish bacon. They also wanted to build a so called 'eco town' on greenfied farmland that they owned and when the plans were released there was nothing 'eco' about it at all.

there's one near us, it's much better for baking flour etc than the local ponceterias. i really like it, and don't find it too expensive. haven't seen the ad, though.

I already boycott them because they keep on displaying the Daily Sport with its porny front page pictures at my local co-op.

They pretend they don't anymore, but they do. They moved it from toddler eye level to adult eye level, but that's not good enough IMO.

If Morrisons, Tesco etc., can remove this shit and display it elsewhere or covered, then why can't the co-op?

Pity because I'd like to shop there - on lots of other issues they're as ethical as a supermarket can be and if you've got one in walking distance, it does make sense not to do a weekly shop. It cuts down on wastage so although prices may not be as cheap as some of the others, you probably save money in the long run as you don't throw things away.

Our local co op is good for bits and bobs you have run out of but doesn't have evrything you need and their kids food which I rely on sometimes on swimming nights etc is shite - at least at Waitrose the nuggets are actual chicken rather than minced up shite!

Woou;d cost a small fortune to do weekly shop in their too - unless we all lived on potato waffles and shite sausages.

When I go to my favourite Market town I love the local Co-op, it sells locally produced cider and ale food and I don't think the prices are horrendous.
I have been too busy to go to local supermarket here at home, it's a 20 min bus journey away so I have not been able to buy any fresh vegetables apart from potatoes. I would think I was in heaven if I lived near a Co-op.

We do shopping as and when needed, not a weekly shop, it works fine and do think it reduces waste as you're just buying what you need for a couple of days, not having to predict what you might be doing or feel like eating in a week's time.

Maybe it's different if you have a very set routine, or don't care about having fresh bread!

I probably spend too much money there. I call in to buy some milk and end up with two carrier bags full of bargain fruit and veg, chocolate and BOGOF items. When we were snowed into our village I walked to the Co-op everyday and ended up with cupborads full of biscuits and crisps. Had to go somewhere to get out of the house to stop cabin-fever setting in.

I do do a daily shop at the co-op, since I started doing that instead on a weekly 'big shop' I have saved about £60 a week on food.

Its awful - and "the wife" version is equally crap

The Ocado comment was a joke. I use sainsburys online and feed my family for about £180 a month. I always cook from fresh.

I reackon his wife ants to go to the shop to escape him... maybe she does her shopping on line and then uses these big 'shopping trips' as a cover for an affair with a less twatish man...?

It made me want to go and get my nails done, but they don't do that at the Co-op.

Guilty I'm afraid!

ha-ha no, it's not snobbery, it's being practical. My partner and I both work full time and have 2 kids... the very thought of having to factor in going to the coop every day is making my body skake.

My mum didnt drive, neither does my MIL, and both used to do a daily shop.. buying up special offers, prefering daily fresh bread. Neither of them did/do a weekly shop as such.

Going shopping daily can save money, so long as you just buy what you need. I find if I do a big shop a lot of things get added that I wouldnt have got if I had popped in for a days worth, and also things get left and thrown away too.

We have a Co-op in our village and although I couldn't do my weekly shopping there it is very handy. The fruit and veg is fine....I don't mind when it's 'almost' out of date because then it's reduced to clear and I get grapes for 30p andcherries for 50p!
I like the Fair Trade chocolate and cakes. Our Co-op even has an instore bakery and there's always plenty of fresh bread.

Some people are just too snobby!!

I thought it was going to be an advert for Ocado, which would make sense, but you're right, it makes no sense as an advert for Co-op.

Another thing that always annoys me about Co-Op ads is that 'good' does NOT rhyme with 'food'!

Report
LolaCola · 06/01/2011 16:23

I thought exactly the same when i saw that advert. It makes no sense, they're saying he wants to spend more time with his family, so how is going shopping every day going to help with that? And you'd definitely spend more that way. Online shopping is the best thing since sliced bread for me. I'd gladly pay anyone the cost of online delivery (I'd be willing to pay double) if it saves me the 2 hours trekking around a supermarket going insane with the kids in tow.

We have a very good COOP locally, far better quality than the local Waitrose, and lower prices. I do virtually all my shopping there as I don't drive. And comparing expenditure at various times of my life I have come to the conclusion that doing big shops is not very economical: you tend to buy more than you need and end up throwing food away and buying little extras you don't really need as you are spending so much anyway you don't really notice it. Ime the most economical way of shopping is every 3 days or so; that way the bill is still small enough to make any unnecessary items stand out like a sore thumb.

I haven't seen the advert, but I have two Co-Ops nearby and find them eye-wateringly overpriced. It's ok if you just want a couple of things urgently, but I dread to imagine that mark-up on everything in my weekly shop!

That said, if you go in at about 9.30pm there's always loads of meat with 75% off which fills my freezer up nicely.

Stupid commercial but I'm a big fan of our local Coop! I couldn't do a weeks worth of shopping in there, but have done several days worth if we've been to busy to get to a supermarket.
