Have read a few threads on here where posters state that their partners & children don't buy/make them a card, present, cake or anything else for their birthday.

Fair enough as a one-off in a family emergency perhaps, but as the norm?

Ha Custy that sounds like my mother (shit...mum?) - I would have been sent to live wild on the moors if I ignored her birthday. Likewise anyone else's birthday in the household.

Why are people putting up with it I wonder? I would be mortified and murderous extremely pissed off if DP didn't bother.

Oh yes, I don't sit back quietly. I find marking it in the calendar in BIG LETTERS helps.

My children love celebrating DH's and my birthdays - in fact, I'd say the standard of my birthdays has improved since DD1 got old enough to nag DH to buy me flowers and a cake

Actually, the cake may be the reason my children will celebrate anyone's the dog's our birthdays........
