AIBU?

To want to be able to buy a Group 2 car seat with harness for my son?

4 just seems too young to be secured by an adult seatbelt when 5 point harnesses are so much safer for children. There are seats available with harnesses in the US but the only one I could find in the UK is a Britax seat for children with special needs and it costs over £450. :(

I'm so frustrated.

Tonari you can't move him into a booster with a seatbelt until he's 15kg - that is the minimum weight and moving him earlier could leave him open to risks of subamarining.

Yes Bertie, I know, thanks though :)

(his head is almost over the top of the Priorifix, he's getting too tall for it, so I need to do something - he's sleeping a lot so hopefully there's a massive growth spurt on the way)

by the way, why assume that someone's a complele numpty? Hmm I do (totally) appreciate that you're only trying to be helpful, but believe me, I'm in no hurry to move DS to a HBB.

Tonari, the Priorifix is ok until their eyes are above the seat edge- not the top of their head. HTH

Tokyo, I can't open that link at the moment. I have poor signal on my iPhone and even mumsnet is painful!

It's not so much arms and legs flailing about as the dummy actually sliding out of the seatbelt that bothered me. Also, In the crashtest of the cybex the dummy actually ended up with its head between the head support and the window. :( none of these videos convinced me that booster seats are as safe/safer than a seat with a harness ( obviously within weight and height restraints) Thankfully DS1 hasn't completely outgrown his priorifix yet and thanks to some of the ladies here I have found a few taller seats that may keep him in a harness for a few years until he reaches 18kg. I just wish we had more of a choice here in the UK. Maybe it will go the way of rearward car seats and in a few years we will have more options.

thanks bubble, yes that is helpful. He's growing so fast at the moment, hopefully he'll get wider before he gets taller Grin

Sorry TheLadyEvenstar but I ain't swapping him (or DD) for anything as they both sleep really well and I don't plan on giving that luxury up for anything. DS weighed 4lbs 11 and a half ounces at birth and hasn't caught up yet. He was in 12-18 month clothes for about a year.
(Sorry for hijack op.)
