to refuse to buy a dress for DD's teddy bear

Even though it is apparantly its birthday. DD dragged me into the bear workshop and demanded a frilly dress for her teddy as its his party today

I point blank refused and now I'm told "the worst mummy ever and teddy will be embarrassed at his party and its all YOUR FAULT if he dosen't enjoy his birthday" (yes she did say HIS but teddy still wants frilly dress it seems)

I know Teddy. He hangs out with me and my naturist friends. He's asked me to tactfully let you know that he doesn't really want a dress.

My dd went to a Build a Bear party. My dh gave her 10 pounds to buy a dress for her bear and assumed hat dd would return with 8 pounds in change. In fact dd spent 10 pounds on a dress which is now lying on the bedroom floor and is ripped to shreds.
Charity shops are a brillianty idea.

Sit her down with a bag of offcuts/old clothes, some scissors and lots of ribbons and hair elastics.

tell her that it is imperative Teddy has a dress.

Resist urge to take over and go and MN with a cup of tea.

Don,t cave over buying tat. It's the thin end of the wedge. Make her sing for her supper

Egad, the build-a-bear workshop is SOOO expensive

DD (6) is still into this, and I swear some of the teddy clothes cost more than I would spend on DD's clothes

I tend to be quite hard-hearted about it tbh

Baby clothes from ebay or charity shop - a brilliant idea

My DD demanded an eyes patch for her elephant when he lost an eye. My mother provided this, however it falls off a lot, we have to find the eye patch before we go out otherwise elephant will be embarassed.

We enjoy going shopping for the dolls/bears at charity shops - though I always feel a bit guilty at taking them away from people that might need them for 'real' babies :( I try to make up for it by donating lots of stuff back to them!

at least its a dress she desires and not the faux satin pink animal print pyjamas which are also available in said bear emporium!

Look at a car boot or ask on freecycle? I bet someone would take pity on poor naked teddy and let you have a tiny dress

A hunt through the charity shops for new born clothes it is then. I will take DD shopping at the earliest opportunity!! Teddy had better be grateful

Grin colditz that's so funny, my ds is the same - amusingly blunt and tactless Grin

OP I feel you pain, I had to steer DS away from the teddy bear workshop today too.

DS: "It's getting cold mummy sizzles needs a jumper."
Me (grumpy): "sizzles is a dog! anyway, he is already wearing a tshirt and jeans he'll be fine.

The world has gone mad. Hmm

My DD's teddy shares clothes with her Grin. DD (2.5) is much bigger than the teddy obv, so teddy just has to wear things a bit big.

You should buy some sort of dress for the teddy, under the guise of "If you and Teddy are VERY good, teddy will get this new dress...."

Charity shops are good for ythis sort of nonsense.

My four year old is tame, and merely holds up his tatty Jack Russel toy to kindly people's faces, and snaps "My dog hates you!"

Those Build-a-bear dresses are too expensive, but you should make or find teddy some sort of dress if it is his birthday.

My DD makes her teddy wear her pants. In fact one night the teddy wore ALL her pants.

And then there was the time I found her, fast asleep, with the teddy stuffed down HER pants.

Seems to be a theme to this. Smile

Do you have any baby dresses put away somewhere? Teddies are usually quite happy to wear them in an emergency.

Your DD might enjoy The Teddy Robinson Stories by Joan G. Robinson - the teddy in them is a bit like hers on matters of dressGrin

Blush make the bear Blush not "make the beat" Confused

Report
BubbaAndBump · 17/08/2010 17:10

Can you make the beat something dress like together with your DD? Wouldn't take much sewing know how and she might really enjoy making one with you?

My DD announced today (aged 3) that I should buy her something for her birthday (in May) as we headed into Boots to buy iron tablets for me. I was told I was mean and not nice and I should share my money when I refused, so I do feel your pain...
