I started drinking heavily due to my last realtionship he was an abuser and it was the only crutch i used to make me numb to my feelings . It got worse during lock down and was taking over my life i gained weight lost all intreset in my apperance . But i have decided to quit for good was looking for any advice on how to distract yourself during this process . I want to loose the weight and take pride in myself again also this was starting to affect my children but i know now its time to give up for good x

Glad you found the book suggestion useful, hope you are managing to keep yourself occupied and are doing okay. It does get easier.

Here you go. They are several threads along but plenty of new people join and everyone shares tips on what has helped them/distracted them. You could loiter and have a read then pop on and say “hello” when you feel ready. It does get easier, just take it one day at a time. Making the decision to quit has been life changing for me, I just wished I’d done it sooner.

Sometimes the hardest step is being honest with yourself and recognising there is an issue. It’s great that you have made the decision to quit.
Distraction wise -maybe an early shower and leave your hair wet, pj’s on-so you won’t be tempted to nip out to buy alcohol. Any good books you’ve been meaning to read? A room that needs its wallpaper stripped that you’ve been putting off? A letter to write to a friend? Take up knitting/crochet/paint by numbers ….anything at all to keep you occupied.

I found this helpful. I was no where near at this level but it helped me realise where I was heading if I didn’t stop

Hopefully someone will come along with some ideas for you soon. I know there is a thread started by someone who quit that has a few followers who are very supportive. I will try to find the link.

Congrats on your day 2 AF Flowers
