Firstly hello everyone in delly it's my first post,
My question is that my self and dh are talking/looking into adoption, I used to be very overweight as a child into adulthood had weight loss surgery lost 16 stone, kept my weight off now for 6 years and counting I'm still overweight my bmi is current 33,
Would my past history have a huge baring on any medical decisions ?
Thanks x

dellydaisy hi, I adopted with a BMI in my 30s. It is not a bar, and you history of showing you can lose weight is fab, well done.

Are you also new to the adoption road? In the past some newbies posted in a thread to introduce themselves to each other. It has fallen into somewhat disrepair but if you want to start it up again you could post an intro there and see if others join you??

Hi, we were quite worried about our bmi as well. There's a lot of controversy around bmi this now as fittest athletes could have high bmi too. Mine was 30 and dp was mid 30's but just got medicals back and have passed. Good luck x

I feel your pain they still have no idea about why I couldn't conceive and tended to mutter darkly about my weight before fobbing me off. Taking the decision about building our family through adoption was an incredibly positive one. All the best to you.

My bmi is way to high. It has never been an issue. My doctor said I was fit and healthy and the social worker was happy with that.

Thank you! After years of everything getting blamed on weight sometimes I guess it stays with you!

Many thanks x

Just IMO I would say that it shows that you are able to make big life changes and stick to them, so a positive. With your current BMI - it is one less than mine and we are bringing our LOs home next week! So you should be fine. Good luck. Grin
