Coffee machines for hot strong long coffes

cherrypiepie · 19/12/2020 20:09

Have used for years a filter machine.

Tried a cheap espresso machine and and a nespresso (pixi?) and neither produced hot strong coffee for a large drink. I like white American or flat white. I like a crema on my coffee

The nespresso was like warm and half a cup - should have sent it back really die to the heat issue.

What about bean to cup or a more expensive nesspresso?

Any ideas please?!

After wasting hundreds of pounds on every kind of filter / pod machine known to man, I recently tried the stove top pot. Amazing! Really rich and authentic taste and the stove pots are pretty cheap.

The stove top cafetieres aren't messy! You just bang the grounds out into the bin and rinse it like you would rinse a cup OP.

They're simple which is why the coffee is good.

The little Italian stove top jobs are the best, and they don’t take up half your kitchen worktop. Add a small bean grinder, bingo.

Exactly. Our coffee is beautifully made...with the simplest of equipment too! One tiny grinder and one attractive stove top thingy. So quick and easy. If you want a frothy milk, just get one of those stick things. The massive machines with their weird 'pods' are just more plastic.

@FortunesFave yes love the stovetop ones and had one in the past and not too messy as the grounds are compacted and tap out. It's the french press which I find fiddly to clean daily.

Also agree about sustainability

Cherry Why don't you get one then? People who drink our coffee always comment that it's better than many cafes'...

Stainless steel is better than aluminium. The light alu ones aren't as good. You just make coffee in the jug on the stovetop and then add some hot water and milk...unless you're like my DH who makes a short one with no milk...like espresso.

Oh and it's worth getting a little grinder too...freshly ground beans are nicer.www.<a class="break-all" href="//amazon.co.uk/morpilot-Electric-Capacity-Stainless-Grinding/dp/B07TBL7MWJ/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?dchild=1&psc=1&keywords=small%20coffee%20grinder&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExOTlJRFBOMjk0NDdLJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNTA3MDA1MUJLQjJRUjVONzM4MiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNTkxMDM0MjZLQkFIMVc2VzRXWSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU%3D&qid=1608511050&sr=8-2-spons&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">https://amazon.co.uk/morpilot-Electric-Capacity-Stainless-Grinding/dp/B07TBL7MWJ/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=small%20coffee%20grinder&qid=1608511050&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExOTlJRFBOMjk0NDdLJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNTA3MDA1MUJLQjJRUjVONzM4MiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNTkxMDM0MjZLQkFIMVc2VzRXWSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU%3D&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

I have a Melitta Solo bean to cup. Had it a few years & love it. Adjustable strength & amount. I microwave a mug of milk, add the coffee & also use a Melitta milk frother to top it off. Best way to start the day. Different models go from approx £250 - £800+. They have self cleaning modes & tell you when to do it. Really easy, just follow the prompts in the manual.

Kab you just fill it with water and there's a removable part that comes out and you put the coffee in and then pop it back...then put the lid on and cook it!

Aeropress, Aeropress, Aeropress!!!!

Is the best and simplest gadget ever. Makes the best coffee with minimum fuss and you don't even have to clean it afterwards. Just run the seal under the tap. You can even take it on holiday!

It has absolutely changed my life. My kids used to laugh at all the different methods I had of making coffee. Now I don't use anything other than my Aeropress.

(The company should employ me)

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't coffee pod machines designed to produce a luke warm coffee so you can drink it straight away? They seem pretty useless to me because of this as I like my coffee hot. The waste involved is also not great. Yes some pods can be recycled, but the saying is "reduce reuse recycle" not recycle as the first step.

The stove top coffee pots are excellent, I would recommend them instead of a wasteful coffee machine every day of the week

If you want crema, you have to have a high pressure espresso machine. A biletti moka pot will make a decent amount of strong coffee, but no crema. We have have a delonghi dedica espresso machine because we're limited by space. That can be set up to make a reasonably large espresso. I top it up with a bit from the kettle which doesn't break the crema and the coffee is good. It has a milk steamer too, which works well.

I have a regular cheap espresso machine. It gets a decent crema on a cup and you can learn how to get it how you like it, it's down to how compressed the grounds are and other factors. It makes a nice latte, even with almond milk, and a decent hot long coffee.

I use the milk steamer to steam my cup to keep my coffee hotter for longer which makes a considerable difference to the temperature

Definitely bean to cup.

We have a Sage Barista touch and I love it. If you only drink black you could go for no steam wand so cheaper.

Honestly, wouldn't go back now.

But remember - a lot of it is in your beans, get some decent ones - grindhouse are good for the price.

Can anyone recommend the best size moka pot for a large mug of coffee (rather than espresso size) please? Is there one big enough for 2 mugs of coffee?

I've got a nesspresso sage machine it's brilliant. It's got a steam wand so proper hot coffee.

Nespresso lungo pods (have to look carefully on the box) make a longer, hot coffee. I like the Starbucks Pike Place pods

Delonghi Caffe corso bean to cup here. Great machine, adjustable in strength and cup size. Lots of testing to get the one you want, we have large mugs so usually do a mid strength but double shot with mid water level.
I did love the stove top but it was difficult to make more than one drink at a time as the base was too hot to refill.

The IKEA one will make two smallish mugs. Most of my mugs are about 250ml, and that one's 400ml. It's steel so should work on induction.
