What name(s) do you irrationally hate?

I'll start.

Denise.

I don't know any Denises... I'm sure they're lovely. But the name just rubs me up the wrong way.

NOTE: No Karen bashing please! Because it's been hijacked as a name and it's not fair on Karens.

Anna
Ottilie (I don’t get it!!!!)
Grace
Seb (I like Sebastian but hate Seb!)
Same as above with Mel and Meg
I also get slightly irritated when I hear of another Oliver or Olivia!

@Frazzledd no mine hasn't but mine is quite unusual and my 2 DD's haven't been mentioned either.
I can't imagine anyone not liking my eldest DD's name and I know my youngest DD name is a bit like marmite - mostly people like but some dislike from recent threads on here asking about baby names

In an absurd coincidence I cross posted with a post which included not one but 2 ! Victory snatched away ! Grin

I feel an absurd sense of pleasure that none of my family’s names have caught my eye here. Grin the very definition of ‘small meaningless ‘victories’ ‘, eh ?

Not a fan of a hard g sound in names, especially ag- Aggie, Maggie, Magda , Dagmar, Naga , Agatha etc. Also Gretchen, Gertrude , Greta.

The name Jorja conveys a sense of being uncomfortably full . I cannot explain this.

Pleased to see my dd name hasn't been mentioned, although mine and my nieces name has been ripped to pieces Hmm

I haven’t had my name or my DC’s mentioned as far as I’m aware.

Report
Frazzledd · 06/04/2021 07:54

Just wondering if anyone hasn't had their name or DCs mentioned!? Or if you've read this and had a rethink on a baby name choice- (tbh I'd have had a rethink on Dd1s now...I think I'm a chav...Shock).

(Putting my Burberry scarf/cap combo back in the closet......Blush)

Names spelt wrong and owners who moan when we spell it differently - as if we've got some weird crystal ball.

An Irish colleague of mine once called the name 'Siobhan' through, and was ignored, he called twice more before the mum said do you mean 'Sigh-oh-Bahn' 😅

That reminds me of f the time I met a Sian at work. She said her name was pronounced Sigh- Ann. I said oh you must get people thinking your name is Sian and she told me her parents had just mispronounced Sian but now she was stuck with being sigh ann.

Lee is terrible. Always makes me think about it being eel spelt backwards. Leigh is as bad though.

@FishyFriday

I've never heard the name Darnley before but I already irrationally dislike it

There’s an area of Glasgow called Darnley. I can’t imagine choosing to name a child after it. 😂

He does exist. I didn’t know it was an area in Glasgow! He’s a bully.

Deborah or Debbie. I really don't know why. All the names on the lists provoke no negative feelings. Just Debbie. Don't know any in my circle or growing up. Perhaps it was Dico 2000 by pulp that did it.
