What little thing(s) that you do are you stupidly proud of?

I was just reading the thread about things we hate doing, and filling up with petrol was one of them.

Whereas, when I fill my car up with petrol I'm all LOOK AT ME, A LAYDEE, JUST HERE CASUALLY FILLING UP MY CAR LIKE A BIG BOSS GROWNUP!!! Grin

What little everyday thing makes you ridiculously proud of yourself? Star

My clothes and linens are never musty, is it possible those of you who's are you need to clean your washing machine?

That said I am allergic to fabric conditioner so instead I use a small amount of white vinegar or a nicely scented disinfectant Liquid (Tesco do a nice "fresh" scented one)

Maybe it's because I don't use fabric conditioner? Which you shouldn't use on towels anyway.

My cakes/baking taste great - but they look dreadful! I certainly can't do all that fancy decorating malarkey can't even do buttercream frosting without it getting all melty and smooth! Doesn't retain the ridges!

Cannot do flatpack to save my life! I'm convinced there's a conspiracy there somewhere as I'm generally pretty practical diy wise but flatpack eludes me, totally illogical and usually the fittings are crappy plastic disintegrating bollocks!

I always feel proud when I set up a big spreadsheet with lots of formulae and it all actually works (maths was not my strong suit at school so getting all those numbers to behave feels particularly good).

Having a system to remember all the work and school stuff on the right day at the right time (a combo of phone reminders and a paper planner keep us on the right path).

Nailing a flatpack on my own.

Turning out good roast potatoes - this remains a lottery, some you win, some you lose!

Oh God, parallel parking.

I had to do it 39 weeks pregnant, on the wrong side of the street, in front of a construction site. It did not go well, but eventually I managed it. I got out the car, and the bastards working on the site had downed tools to watch my efforts, and they flipping well applauded.

I waddled to my midwife's appointment with as much hauteur as I could muster. Okay, that was none.

I’m seriously good at rapping. It’s always very unexpected when I pull it out the bag at parties Grin

I also feel a sense of accomplishment when I parallel park. I avoided it for years (despite living on a street with no off street parking) then I saw a gif on Pinterest and it just clicked. I nail it every time, latest was in a really tight space.

I’m not sure if it will gif itself here, but it’s easily found.

@mbosnz

PLEASE do you have any tips/a recipe?

1 cup high grade/bread (gf, natch) flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
110g frozen butter
2 tbsp iced water

Place flour, baking powder and salt in food processor. Grate in butter, and whizz until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs (you want the butter to remain chunky). With the motor running, add the water and continue to pulse until the dough starts to incorporate into a ball.

Tip dough onto a sheet of baking paper, pressing it together into a disk or log shape. Wrap and chill for at least 20 minutes before use. If not using within a week, freeze until needed.

(Thank you Annabel Langbein. However, please note, I've only done this a couple of times, it's just worked out those times, but I'm ridiculously proud that it did!)

I love you forever and ever, THANK YOU.

Oh, for me, I can make gluten free puff pastry from scratch, and I can carry a super king sized mattress up two flights of stairs. And I am a boss at loading reluctant floaters (horses, not poos).

Yes and flat packing - in fact, I do all of the house maintenance stuff and if I can fix something myself, I get so proud

Being able to grab a huge bad of dog food and sling it over one shoulder casually. The young chap behind the counter couldn't turn it over for the bar code which made me have a little chuckle to myself as I got in the car.

Parking

Baking Vic sponge

Clearing up the kitchen, wiping everything down and then admiring my kitchen design

Usually smashing it in terms of being a parent - working a senior role but still managing to never drop the parenting ball, remembering school stuff, uniforms clean, lunches etc (on the flip side, I have had two fails this week and they have really got to me)

I make my own shortcrust pastry and quiche from scratch. Ooh, another pastry one, I make my own rough puff pastry for sausage rolls at Christmas too.

I always feel quite proud when I complete a flat pack all by myself. I've recently got the hang of parallel parking too, and I've been driving nearly 15 years! Go me!
Also jealous of the finger whistling.....

Hanging washing on the line. I feel like I'm in some old movie and get a stupid smile on my face, I then start laughing because I realise how silly I'm being and most likely look insane to the neighbours!

ProudAuntie76 Washing soda is white crystals that you can add to your laundry or pre soak, its an epic de-greaser. Like lemon washing up liquid but for clothes. Find in the supermarket laundry or cleaning aisle, and corner shops.
But dont confuse it with caustic soda or you'll have no clothes.
