Are you celebrating Halloween this year?

Big Halloween fan and always celebrate, decorate and take part in all the festivities. Will you still be celebrating it and if so what will you be doing/ what will you be doing differently because of the current circumstances? 🧙🏼‍♀️🧛🏼‍♀️

Yes, we're decorating, filling bags to be left outside for halloweening kids who are touring, dressing up and checking out the local decorated houses, making bat biscuits, bobbing for apples, carving pumpkins and watching hocus pocus or playing Luigi's Mansion.

I never can understand why some people have such an issue with halloween even pre COVID. It's all a bit of harmless fun and surely if it's obvious that your house is not decorated kids won't bother coming to your door. It's not all about trick or treating though. Deffs going to try some of your suggestions, thanks everyone 😊

I've always hated Halloween, not sure why, even as a child I hated it. I'm glad mine are too old for going around houses, although in recent years it's parties and pubs they go to, our pubs still haven't opened here yet and house parties are banned, so it may be a case of everyone staying home this year.

I won't be opening the door if anyone calls. I've 2 shielding and don't want to take any chances, we normally get a lot of callers.

Few of the neighbours with little ones have said they won't be bringing their kids around the estates, as they don't know how dirty / careful people are that have made up the sweets, so I don't feel guilty not answering now. Win, win 😁

Halloween is quite a big deal in our area and my DS and his friends get nearly as excited about it as they do about Christmas. They start talking about their costumes in about May! I've told him that it's unlikely that trick-or-treating will go ahead this year though - he was disappointed but old enough to understand. We'll still decorate and do something fun, but I suspect people will be wary of opening the door to a stream of strangers and I know a tub of sweets outside would be emptied within minutes :(

I only ever knock on houses with pumpkins outside

I've seen a suggestion on another thread of decorating a tree with wrapped seets for children to help themselves to. I think we'll do that this year along with the decorations etc. DC are still small so don't know what they're missing out on in terms of trick or treating!

Yes we will , we usually have about 25 callers , i love it , they are usually well mannered too !
Our kitchen is at the front and i decorate the window , last year i decided i would put this years sweets in individual bags as we get through so many , definitely will be doing it now !

We’ll decorate and do pumpkin carving. Scary films etc. We don’t do trick or treat anyway as too rural.

We will have a little party at home. Play some party games, have a Halloween spread, get dressed up. Will decorate the place. Do the monster mash. Watch a spooky movie. No trick or treating though

rosydreams maybe you could hide a Halloween Trail with treats etc for them to find?

Report
blue25 · 15/09/2020 18:26

No not this year. Please don’t take your kids out trick or treating to random homes. Other people don’t want to be coming to the door at the moment-obviously! I know elderly relatives getting stressed about this already.

We don't tend to get trick or treaters knocking on our door, so I don't have much in the way of treats in to give out.

I think this would have been the first year that DD understood Halloween so it's not like she's used to going out.

So other than a few sweets at home we won't be doing anything.

ohhhh.... i love halloween.
Unfortunately my DC will be at thier dads (who is so misreable he won't let me have any time with them over the half term week for halloween -50/50 parenting)
So the weekend before halloween and the lead up I will be decorating the house, doing pumpkins, watching films and doing autumn crafts with DC.
Then DP and i will hopefully go away for a few days and return to trick or treat night.

I going to behave the same as other years (unless gov. Guidelines suggest otherwise) and hand out sweets. Kids will be masked and i can wear a halloween themed mask to open the door.

Although I love the idea of fishing nets to hand out sweets! It would be funny too.

We'll be doing the usual.

I don't think a load of mini chocolate bars etc. are any more risky than public transport handrails, escalators, shops, schools and places where everything is touched by loads of random people every day.

Gah I don’t like Halloween but really, I don’t think putting out bowls of sweets and having kids hands repeatedly rummaging around and touching all the sweets is a great idea at the moment.

Just have a year off the sweets and decorate your home/ dress up instead.

No but I hate it anyway and never do anything for it at all. And would never ever take my child of mine trick or treating as I think that's the worst part of it anyway

Definitely decorating, for me it's also a marker of season change.. I adore Halloween!

Sadly no trick or treating... Maybe we will do something silly ourselves!
Also hopefully very small regulated party for dd.
