How can I get my DS to walk outside?

DS has only just started walking recently. he walks mostly in the house but he won't do it outside and he won't walk wearing shoes either, he just wants to pull them off all the time.

How can I get him to walk outside? When I try to put him down on his feet he just lifts his legs up and then bum shuffles like he used to before.

Is this "normal" behaviour and is there anything I can do to get him walking outside?

I’d just give him time to be honest.

What kind of shoes does he have? He maybe doesn’t find them comfortable?

Ime make the most of being able to get him in a buggy and actually getting places on time!!

How old is he? If he has just started walking you need to give him time to practice indoors for a few weeks. Walking outside is harder and is actually a different skill due to harder/uneven surface. Shoes make a big difference too as they constrain the ability of the feet to grip the surface/balance.

I think they naturally start to want to walk more as they improve their balance and stamina by walking andvrunning in & around the house. As they see other people, especially other children, walking they'll also want to do the same. TBH it's a pain in the arse because they want to walk everywhere but the direction you're travelling in and stop to inspect every tiny pebble, stick and feather they see.

He's 16 months. He can walk quite well in the house but he doesn't walk constantly if that makes sense? He will often fall down on his bum and then carry on bum shuffling. The shoes he has are just canvas type ones with Velcro but he just hates wearing them, even in the house he's unable to walk wearing them. Not sure if some different type shoes would help him

It's just time. 16 months is still really young and lots of kids are still getting to grips with walking (some don't walk inside until later!). He'll do it more and more as he builds confidence, which happens naturally.

And yes, bare feet in the house is best when they are learning as the brain needs a clear signal from the nerve endings in the feet to make everything link up really well (or so I was told by a paediatrician)

He is only little. It is a new skill that takes time to learn.
By the time he is two you will be wishing he would stop for a few minutes occasionally.

Can you scrap the shoes and go on a grass field? My 19month old still hates shoes even though he has been walking since 11 months

Try him barefoot.
