Hairdresser has dyed my hair completely the wrong colour. Will they be able to fix it and should I have to pay full price

I've been going to the same hairdresser salon for years, very nice, friendly staff.

I have the same colour every time, whatever it is is described in my notes they just look it up on the system.

Today instead of a coppery brown I've come hope with almost jet black hair. It's very close to my natural colour and I now look very like my estranged mother so I absolutely despise it

They've asked me to come back in later to have a look at it. I asked if it's likely to be fixable but they couldn't say over the phone.

They were lovely and I'm not cross or anything but a bit peeved that I've had to sit in a mask for 90 minutes only for it to need to be repeated.

I've no experience of these things so not sure I should be paying full price? It was 91 quid and it's not what I asked for at all.

That's great that they managed to sort it for you. I'm glad they were nice about it.

Clarifying shampoo may/should take it a shade or 2 lighter if you wash it a few times over the next day or so. But the hairdresser should put it right for you with no extra charge.

It's lovely. Did they just shampoo you as it looks like they have dyed it a totally different all over colour. They didn't apply any dye at all?!

Don't do it yourself you are likely to make it worse and yes they should fix it for free- ask them what they plan to do?

probably a colour remover like the colourB4 stuff you can buy. It's nice

This happened to me 11 years ago.

Hairdresser (out of the blue) gave me scarlet highlights instead of copper ones Confused

They tried to bleach it out. It completely knackered my hair. My hair started breaking and there was nothing they could do. Ended up at another salon (who fixed it).

Didn’t get a refund (cost me £140!), but didn’t go back.

Sorry, that was garbled!

Basically it doesn't seem to have been a mistake as such as they said they put on the usual colour. It's just come out weird, perhaps cos I box dyed it in lockdown but I did tell them that beforehand.

They are nice people though, doing their best to sort it.

Like others here I effing hate going to the hairdresser so I'm just annoyed that I have to go back.

Thanks all - I could see what they were saying in that I had my phone whole head done today and the last few visits have been just roots so the colour is darker than it usually is.

They agreed that on the ends seems to have 'grabbed' and that it's darker than the sample that was put on.

I'm really reticent about highlights but it's got to be better than this. They were nice, I'm just pissed off. I've 2 weeks off work starting today after months of wfh and home schooling and I didn't want to spend the first two days at the hairdresser.

I get that it's not their fault though, it's just turned out like this.

I really don’t suit my hair very dark i Am pale and it makes me look Ill and washed out. Once went to hairdresser and got a colour wanted it warm but not too dark so she did it a dark plum which wasn’t what was agreed I was so upset and went back and they toned it down and re did it it was far better but wasn’t a fun experience (free though)

I hate the hairdressers too, hate looking at myself for that long I just find it tedious so I get you op, arrange to go back, get them to sort it and don’t pay any more than you originally would have and even then I wouldn’t be happy paying for the mess they’ve made. It’s not bad but it’s not what you wanted and it can affect you if you’re not happy with your appearance Especially after sitting for all that time in a mask 😷 hope they can sort it for you. I’m getting my hair done on wed will make sure I’ve got plenty pics of colour and what I want so I am happy.

Its not black OP, its dark brown and looks lovely

However it is not the colour you wanted (having viewed that colour its really nice, I like it) so let them rectify
A dye will not lighten a shade that dark .

TheCanyon I will check but I’m pretty sure it’s the ordinary one.

Report
TheCanyon · 27/07/2020 16:42

@Nicknacky it might be the one for coloured hair you're using

Report
DannyGlickWindowTapping · 27/07/2020 16:29

They say it doesn't, but my hairdresser has advised its use before. It may be because I use a lot of toners, and it's clarifying, so it'll remove build-up of toner, products, surfactants etc..

Report
Nicknacky · 27/07/2020 16:27

Damn it! I will stop using it.

yes i’ve heard that about Head and Shoulders actually - also Johnson’s Baby Shampoo.

Report
TheCanyon · 27/07/2020 16:25

It looks like they've put a purple in rather than red. Btw head and shoulders with vitamin c really does take out a lot of colour, should be able to correct it easily after that

Nicknacky · 27/07/2020 16:23

Errr does Head and Shoulders make hair dye fade!? I hope not, I’ve been using my daughters!
