I think I have the opposite of Trypophobia *Trigger Warning*

This is really concerning me to be honest because my dc and dp are horrified and keep telling me that it’s disgusting and that I’m weird.

I first read about it on here so looked up the condition. Rather than being disgusted, I found myself feeling all warm and fuzzy and looked for more.

As time has gone on I have found some that would make your average person queasy ( a botched hair transplant resulting in red holes on someone’s scalp ) and that’s the one I keep looking at )

I’ve tried to look into this online but the issue seems to be that people have the phobia of holes and not the opposite which I have, whatever it is. I’m worried why I seem to like them so much.

Is there anyone else? Not expecting any/many people to say yes but I needed to get it out.

I definitely have the opposite of trypophobia. I've been googling what the opposite is called but found no answer. But I absolutely get a warm fuzzy feeling from patterns if holes such as porcupine quill holes in a dog's face or parasitic infestations. Maybe I'm weird but I love it.

You're just a sporner.

Yep. Have you seen the videos of blackheads being pulled out by cuticle pliers? They leave lovely holes.

I also found this old thread looking up the opposite of trypophobia.

Tiny holes (especially mushroom pores) are somewhat addictive to me. I have a strong physiological reaction to them thats hard to describe but involves some combination of fear, fascination and sexual excitement. They also make me shiver and I have no idea why this happens.

Ahhh OP the reason you’ve got all worked up, I imagine, is that as an OCD sufferer, you will be super sensitive to being thought of as “weird” or psychologically deviant.

I have pure O OCD (in “remission” for about 2 years) and am very much the same- any thoughts, likes or dreams I think are “deviant” (when I’m ill) really plague me. When I’m well (like now) I just think “ah how funny. That was a strange thought” and move on.

Right now I can say that liking trypophobic images is not anywhere near the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard- or indeed thought or felt myself.

You will find people who have what you describe, but it is I suspect a little unusual. It's good you can find kindering spirits online and you've opened my eyes because it's not something I've ever considered. It's probably a bit 'niche' as it were, so bear this in mind when talking to your family. People are into much stranger stuff, bit the 'mainstrem' is called that because that's what it is.

Hi, Did you find any answers to your post?
It’s just my 8yr old daughter LOVES things with holes in and always gets the urge to bite them. I’ve been trying to find someone else that can give me answers to this to no avail 😂🤣🤦🏼‍♀️

@Deadringer

Sometimes i feel compelled to keep looking at things that give me the ick, not sure that is the same though.

I get that a lot. I also have diagnosed and medicated OCD and other anxiety conditions and I wonder if that has something to do with it?

Thank you all for answering. I’m surprised there are a few of us!

I’m going to stop worrying so much after reading these replies. I feel much less weird.

Ooh, i love holes too. I did a sculpture degree and made a lot if things with repetitive patterns of holes in, drilled holes in various materials too, also melted and burned holes in stuff, for years!
I also love sporn though.

Thanks, @Tana433 & @Nomorewineever. Never eating crumpets would be an absolute tragedy!

Ive never really thought about it but no, crumpets dont bother me and neither do the holes in Aeros or Crunchies so it must be a psychological thing rather than a real physical manifestation. @tillytoodles1, you made me howl with laughter, i know exactly what you mean!!!

I loved the pasta trypophobia pics! I get the urge to run my tongue over them. Weird.
The trypophilia pics are gross though.

Report
Sewrainbow · 04/07/2020 22:12

I kind of like them too, they're fascinating!

Report
Nomorewineever · 04/07/2020 22:08

I don’t like crumpets, no! And things like coral or sponges make me feel very weird. Plug holes in sinks. Doesn’t stop me eating crumpets though. I just fill the holes with butter or honey. If I’m in control it’s fine.

But I do like seeing things being removed from holes like Dr pimple popper!

FloreanFortescue · 04/07/2020 22:07

I was going to suggest tryophilia too! Ugh 🤢 I hate holes

Report
BigBadVoodooHat · 04/07/2020 22:03

Can I ask the people with trypophobia something: does it mean that you can never eat crumpets?
