Gingerbread recipe

I’m hoping to make some gingerbread men this year.

Will be ‘helped’ by a 1 year old so ideally easy as possible recipe, and one that survives being bashed around a bit with the cookie cutters like play dough

Any well used recipes?

Yes, I've used this recipe for the past few years with my children. It was recommended to me by another mum at our twin group and we've all used it ever since!

Thank you, that looks doable. Maybe I make the mixture alone, and then let Ds go wild with the shapes.

This one is great.

I'd second the BBC goodfoods recipe that 2319inprogress has linked, though I was looking last night (as we're doing gingerbread this morning) and the Jane's Patisserie recipe is almost identical - her recipes are generally very reliable.

These Nigella biscuits hold their shape really well if you're using cutters.

Sorry I don't have it to hand but the one in the Hummingbird Bakery cookbook (the first one) is very good, we use it for gingerbread houses and it holds its shape very well. It's quite dark in colour as it uses treacle, and tastes absolutely lovely.

Are any of these in particular ginger ‘snap’ like rather than soft?

Otherwise we may have to do a test and try each recipe and mark out of 5.
And then offload 10kg of gingerbread to neighbours
