These are the useful tips I picked up at the FiLiA conference self defence workshop for if you’re being attacked:

Pepper sprays might be illegal but a little bodyspray or hairspray or something is just as good for spraying in an attacker’s eyes. Don’t use your keys unless you have to because you risk dropping them - carry a pen. Pen or fingers in the base of someone’s throat / up their nostrils / in their eyes as hard as you can. Or hard kick in the shin / side of the knee.
