"At approximately 4am on Wednesday, 7th November, a 66-year-old local female was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill, and remains in police custody at this time. Investigations are ongoing"

'She' has now died and turns out to be the abandoned first draft of a Johnny Cash song 'a girl named Frank'

"A DEFENDANT who faced firearms and affray charges over an armed police incident died in hospital after being held on remand in jail.

Frank Hills was accused of possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence in the area of Newport the 66-year-old lived.

The defendant, who identified as a transgender woman, was also alleged to have committed affray on the same date, November 6, 2018, in Lambert Street."

Obvious questions in this case:

  • No doubt TRAs will add this to the list of brave transwomen murder by the cistem in prison
  • 'She' didn't seem to do a very good job of identifying as a transwoman, what with not even having changed name. How far do Gwent Police validate such claims? (Not at all I would guess)
  • Who was 'she' threatening to kill? 'Her' wife?

During those proceedings at Newport Crown Court, Judge Patrick Curran QC heard how Hills was born male but wished to be referred to as a woman.

Therefore, the crime was reported in the newspaper as committed by a woman and as someone female.

Why are men are now allowed to define woman and female as whatever they want them to be.

God knows, Zutt, I do wonder if the victim's willingness to validate that self definition relates to the crime he committed.

Why are men are now allowed to define woman and female as whatever they want them to be.

Because it helps even out crime statistics.

I suspect that the newspaper used 'female' based on the police telling them that the person arrested was a woman.

Yet another example of a transphobic hate crime.

I read headlines like this now and immediately think yeah, is that 'woman' as a fact or a euphemism?

Basically an extremely unwell person died in custody, facts to follow.

Why are men are now allowed to define woman and female as whatever they want them to be.

But yet when women define woman/female, we are transphobic and are interviewed or cautioned by the police.

Tbh I think the reporter has done a good job reporting this. It clearly states that Frank was a man and mentions how Frank wished to be referred to as a woman.

Obviously Gwent police are not so bothered by adding to 'female' statistics.

hometownglory. The first report didn't mention the fact that the person arrested was a male transperson. It only used the words woman and female to describe the person arrested.

I think it's common upon arrest just to report 'a woman was arrested'. This is then reported in the paper, without a name. The name will be supplied later, but it's potentially not a big enough story for them to report that.

Hence you can have a story being reported only in the initial report, like this one.

These days, when a crime is reported that seems extremely untypical for a woman, i find I'm waiting for the further reporting that reveals the gender identity of the perpetrator.

Gun crimes and threats to kill are not typical for female pensioners.

Zutt- missed that. Glad to see that the reporting is now more accurate.

I’m planning to complete the police consultation over the weekend. This news story illustrates why we need to discuss the sex of criminals, not just their chosen identity.

I hope no one minds me reposting the link.
