Oh I think you've left a piece of rubbish here CS, that does nothing other than give transgendered people a bad name and sells more copies of the rag. Would you mind picking it up again please?

There's a lively discussion on this story going on elsewhere. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/2847371-Paris-Green-moved-from-a-womens-prison-again?msgid=66761603#66761603.

The link on that thread is from Metro which should please you, Pannn. However if you're worried about the harm this story is doing to the public image of TW, I suggest you take it up with the TW concerned.

Thank god theres no nuts things that happen with non-transgender people ever. No murderers, lunatics of dangerous people whatsoever.

Jaxing - you don't think it's a bad decision to put a extremely violent, disturbed, delusional or manipulative male in a women's prison?

Course there are. We just don't tend to stick the male perpetrators in with a whole load of women.

I think an extremely violent, disturbed, delusional and manipulative person needs careful monitoring and control in whatever prison they are in.

A male perpetrator should not be out in prison with women. I agree. That is the insanity here.

No argument there. But as 98% of sexual crimes are committed by men against women, it's fairly rational to expect those men to not incarcerated alongside women.

be incarcerated

I don't think women prisoners should be exposed to violent male offenders, and would strongly support action for the women who are so affected to sue the prison service for breaches of their human rights. I hope a human rights lawyer takes up the case.

Would a trans wing in both men's/women's prison solve the problem? I fear I'm missing something crucial but I am only a bear of very little brain.

Derv

Yes, that would solve the problem. Unless there is a question of validation (which I think would be dismissed). But prisons are stretched financially to breaking point as it is. I can't see them introducing a trans wing any time soon.

I think trans prisoners would argue they weren't being treated equally. Given that the separate toilets/sleeping accommodation option in schools etc isn't acceptable for that reason apparently.
I don't think there is a way out of this until we start being honest about male violence. And as for the chance of a woman prisoner suing, why doesn’t that happen already where men are incarcerated with men who rape them? Or women who are assaulted, sexually or otherwise, in prison?

Where do trans male prisoners get housed? Or aren't there any?

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 07/02/2017 01:55

I would imagine any transmen prisoners stay in the women's prisons. They're transgender, not insane. Transmen often use ladies loos etc. Don't blame them.

The only trans person I've seen advocate for "third space" prisons was a transman who had been imprisoned when he was a woman. This did not surprise me.

The transwoman on the same panel was table-thumping about the need for transwomen to go into women's prisons. This did not surprise me, either.
