Don't give him the oxygen of publicity. To quote the lovely Linda Smith, I'm not that happy with him having the oxygen of oxygen.

Shoot me down by all means, but he represents a demographic which include a number of people who feel dissaffected and disenfranchised. Refusing to engage and silencing people you disagree with doesn't make them go away. When that happens bad feelings fester then it rises up with things like Brexit and Trump.

What demographic feels disaffected and disenfranchised by the domestic violence bill?

I have a constructive suggestion. How about the esteemed Mr Davies brings in his own bill to deal with violence against men?

Funny how these MRA types never seem to get off their arses and do stuff to help their own sex, but simply scream "s'not fair" when women do the donkey work to help themselves.

I suppose he considers it all part of Wifework for women to look after men as well as themselves and do the hard graft for them as it's so much easier (and high profile) for the Davies' of the world to stand on the sidelines whinging.

Perhaps we should suggest Mr Davies opens up a refuge for men? After all, it would be far more constructive than the ideas he is likely to contribute to the equalities commission.

What an entitled knob.

I think we should get Davies on an MN web chat. . He can have his white middle.class views aired because clearly white middle class men aren't getting enough of a say if he feels disenfranchised.

Seriously though this what happens when male privilege is attacked or even (as in the case of the Women and Equalities Committee) we ask quite nicely for women's views to be taken into consideration. I don't think his voice is in any danger of being silenced Dervel.

He's my fucking mp. Total arse hole.

Yup, the demographic of white middle class privileged man is deeply under-represented on every single board, committee, in parliament and pretty much everywhere else, the poor unloved things. I one day wish that women have that level of disenfranchisement. I can totally see why he feels disaffected with the whole fucking world being set up for his benefit.

He also (successfully) filibustered a bill giving carers free hospital parking. He also spoke out against a bill requiring landlords to make homes fit for human habitation. I can not stand that man.

The guy has a history for this type of crap.

Stuart maconie in his very funny book about the north writes how whenever he is confronted with this particular type of gobshite he just shrugs and says "Yorkshireman". Little as I like endorsing regional bigotries I am tempted to folllow his example in this case.

Well in that case hopefully he'll find himself booted out come next election.

Any know if there's a petition going to get Philip Davies booted off the Women and Equalities Committee? If if not we need to start one.

Do me a favour, join the local Conservative party and lobby to get him deselected.

He should be in Ukip anyway.

I knew it would be Philip Davies before I even opened the thread.

How his constituents managed to vote him in is anybody's guess. Is he in one of those constituencies where you could stick a blue rosette on a strategically-shaved baboon and it would be voted in? It's the only possible explanation.

For this particular example of egregious behaviour, I hope Mrs May will haul him over the coals. But I won't hold my breath. My opinion on her ability to pick a team nose-dived somewhat after she managed to pick Dumb, Dumber and Dumbest as the Brexit team.

Sigh.

You're not allowed to object to misogyny now I think - it makes you a metropolitan liberal who's probably pro remain, and those people are the root of all the evil in the world as any fule kno

I read bout this is in HuffPost, it said there that even the Tories were turning their backs on him.
Agree with whoputthecatout he should be challenged to found a refuge for men

Why not speak for an hour about providing more funding for male victims of violence? Why not propose his own bill (completely seperate and without interfering with the bill for female victims) for male victims of violence.

I think the reason men like him are so threatened by conversations of equality, is because suddenly his isn't the loudest in the room anymore.

(Just to add on the end, there are refuges for men in the uk - 6 I think - but men tend to experience less post-separation abuse from female perpetrators and one of the reasons for there being so few male refuges, is because they aren't as required as women's refuges. Another is funding - surprise surprise! But fully agree that Mr Davies should just pipe the fuck down and if he wants to help men, he should focus his efforts on male victims of domestic abuse, gay men, male rape victims, and perhaps make a donation or found a bill to safeguard things like mensadviceline.org.uk or indeed Refuge.co.uk who advise and support male victims of abuse every day.)

puts soap box away and apologises for minirant

That's the one stitch, he said that the minimum wage (which he wants to abolish)restricted disabled people because they are inherintly less productive than non disabled people. He also tried to stop a bill preventing a greasiness debt recovery companies aggressively pursuing the debts of third world countries. Utter arse hole.

I just couldn't be a member of the Conservative party fakename. I hate them too!

He has a healthy majority and labour put a bit of a numpty to stand against him.

There was a nice thing some women in his constituency did - after he said feminists wanted to have their cake and eat it, they held a cake sale to raise money for the local Women's Aid and a men's suicide charity.
