Systems that could only have been designed by a non feminist?

Thinkng about the AIBU thread where the system got confused because the OP was a Mrs but had kept her surname - so it kept asking for her maiden name.

Which systems out there must have been designed by a non feminist? I was going to say male but I think that would have been a bit sexist?

Have you noticed that when you have a drop down menu - it's predominantly Mr that comes first. Then all the female titles?

Little things, I know. I'm sure you can find some bigger things where the system is just not designed to cope with women.

I think 'Mr' in
Front of 'Mrs' is merely
Alphabetical.

Men are more important - aren't they? Hmm

Arf at Buffy's "The World and all that's within"

Today I would like to specifically add: marriage and schools. Schools are top of my agenda because ours is closed due to an act of god (see dollius's second post).

This is therapeutic.

Isn't 'Dr' or 'Miss' alphabetically before 'Mr'?

But less commonly
Used, so the more popular
Ones are put on top.

The Criminal Records Bureau - I have to have a CRB check every couple of years for work. I am apparently not allowed to be a Ms. unless I am divorced! I have to be a Miss which isn't the biggest deal i the world, but it still pisses me off!

When you design a drop down list, you just type in each possible answer.

It does not get sorted unless you ask it to.

I have done several drop down lists.

My granny's dinnertime system...entirely designed by a non-feminist! The men and boys are served first with huge portions they are unlikely to finish and the women and girls have to get their own from the leftovers. Once she even took food off my plate to give seconds to my BIL, and he let her Hmm

That, and the rest of the systems in the world.

The statues of course celebrate the dead white dudes which were are in the National Curriculum which celebrates the history of wars which dead white men fought.

Whilst ignoring half the population.

dropdown option that is male/female. Male always comes first despite everything.

As for anything else, well, all other systems anywhere. Women are an afterthought in every aspect of society from the banal but important - eg provision of toilets (and btw I was v annoyed to see one of those pop-up urinals outside Paddington Station the other day - no provision for women obv) - to the all encompassing (religion, politics). I actually can't think of a system that was designed around women first - even obstetrics is dominated by men (drs and hospital managers) with babies as the second priority and women third on the list.

Public toilets.

Have you noticed that whenever you go to the loos in a public place (ie. leisure centre, restaurant, service station etc) they ALWAYS put the men's loos closest, and the women's further away?

Tiny cubicles where it's impossinle to open the dour, get round the door ands sit down whilst holding something because no one could be arsed to design the Sani bin into the space and shoved it in afterwards.

We need pop urinals because generally it's not women who piss in shop doors, although I do agree that it's inherently sexist. removes trollcap

I noticed that at my gym all the exercise machines had their displays angled for someone who was at least 5'10".

The use of 'he' as a default in legal drafting. I understand the logic (you should always use the singular, drafting 'he or she' every time would be time consuming and a legal nightmare if you once in a 500-page document forgot to type 'or she', he is one letter less, so saves space (although how much is up for debate)). My feminist heart dies every time I see it. :(
