What we're reading

The Time Traveler's Wife..?

DramaInPyjamas · 10/04/2010 13:55

Was in charity shop today and bought The Time Traveler's wife..
(It was 2 for a £1 - other book I bought was Marley & Me)

Anyway, is it worth reading? I don't want to invest time in it if it's shite half way through..
Reading is a rare treat for me these days (too busy) and don't want to waste my time.. Or should I just watch the movie instead?

Anyone?
I'm thinking about making a start on it now while DC are glued to Harry Potter!

Didn't do it for me. I couldn't get past the first chapter. Don't waste your free time on it.

Crap! Can't remember a book that annoyed me so much. I may have said this before on MN

But by all means go ahead and give it a go. Some people love it. If it was in a charity shop it won't matter when you get so cross you chuck in the bin

I really, really enjoyed it - so much so that I have read it twice and this is an opinion shared my friends at work, my sister and my neice. Give it a go.

Well, I read the first couple of pages.. Don't really have an opinion yet. But I will persevere with it!
Might leave it for now and read in the summer whilst dossing about in the garden!
Only reason I bought it was because of the hype I had heard about it. Thanks for opinions though.

I loved it. So creative, so romantic. Lots of my friends loved it too.

god i loved it and it made me cry almost more than Life of Pi. that's the only reason i haven't read it again!

If you're not into fantasy normally tho i wouldn't bother - it's not a fantasy/sci fi as in Terry Pratchett or Iain M Banks, you understand, but as the central story idea is something fantastical you'll just be annoyed if you're not used to getting into that kind of thing.

It is a silly and ridiculous book.

I read it on a recommendation from a friend and was so mad that I preservered to the end waiting for it to become a good book and it doesn't.

Very disappointing. Interesting concept but badly executed.

Its a good holiday read. But as a time-ish book, I loved The End of Mr Y much more

Read it - is lovely

it is essentially a love story so if that's not your thing don't bother ... the time travelling is just a vehicle (boom boom!)

I didn't enjoy it. I was PG when I read it, and found some of it quite upsetting.

I absolutely loved this booked, must admit I was a bit lost at first, but after the first couple of chapters I was hooked. Some ladies at my work read it after me, about a 50:50 split of those that loved it/couldn't get past the first few chapters.

One of my absolute favorites. Don't bother with the film though Everyone I know that has rad it loves it. Takes a bit to get into, but once you do, you never want it to end.

I tried to read it for 18 months, kept giving up and trying again.

Then, I got into it and it was lovely. A true love story. I can see why people didn't like it.......but I adored it.

i loved it. i didn't perceive it to be a slushy love story, i was quite surprised when it was filmed as a romcom. not that i've seen the film. it's quite dark in parts.

I couldn't stand it and gave up halfway through, which is don't usually do. Bizarrely, my midwife (who is a bright, right-minded sort) was saying how much she liked it yesterday. I couldn't believe it! Just seemed too American, IYSWIM.
