Welcome to the first thread of the 50 Book Challenge for this year.

The challenge is to read fifty books (or more!) in 2017, though reading fifty isn't mandatory. Any type of book can count, please try to let us all know your thoughts on what you've read.

Who's in for this year?

I'm in!
Currently re-reading 'Sense and Sensibility'. I often turn back to Jane Austen at this time of year. Looking forward to getting lots of ideas from you all. I was given 'Belgravia' by Julian Fellowes for Christmas so that's next on my list.

I'm definitely in this year after lurking on the 2016 threads.

I'm currently reading The Wolf and the Raven (a Robin Hood novel- the second in a series, I enjoyed the first one), a non fiction on Edward I "A Great and Terrible King" and I have the Hobbit

I'm in. I'm in the middle of teacher training which means I don't have a lot of free time for reading atm and I'll probably be relying on audio books in term time. I'm currently listening to the first Shardlake book and reading The Painted Veil.

I'm in. Thanks for the new thread southeast Smile. Happy New Year everyone. I am starting the year with Radiance by Catherynne M. Valente in paperback and Hideous Creatures by S.E. Lister on kindle. Not sure yet what my first audible listen of the year will be but likely it will be a non fiction -will have to look through the cloud and see what takes my fancy. I hit 100 books for the 2016 challenge with a couple of hours to spare and would like to aim for at least 75 this year. I have pledged not to buy any books this year until I have reduced the tbr pile sitting beside my bed and on my kindle. This year I am going to focus a bit more on my favourite genres of fantasty and scifi and vow not to start any more series until I finish ones I started in the last year or two. I have high hopes!

First Jack Reacher novel by Lee Child. I was in the mood for a page turner and it is surprisingly enjoyable. I'm a massive Sara Paretsky fan but need a little pause before I go back to her books. This is not as good but gives me a little fix.

I'm in. I'm going to aim for fifty and hope to beat last year's total of eight. Currently really enjoying "A little life" by Hanya Yanagihara and "Moranifesto" by Caitlin Moran.

I'm in. Happy new year, and thanks for the new thread.

Did fifty last year (with a day to spare), aiming for 75 this year.

Also want to read more books recommended by others; but also also trying not to buy any books this year - which means the library will have to be my friend. Lots of unread books and Kindle titles to fall back on too.

Starting with Springsteen's biography, Born to Run. Good to get the year started with a 500 pager...

Oh and forgot my other goal which is not to have quite so many books on the go at the same time - at one point last year that number was 19 :$

I'm in. However one a week might be a push, plus all my books are in storage. Sad I'll be scouring the kindle deals page I think.
If I count children's books I'm already on 10 Grin

I'm in. I will aim for 30 initially and see how I go. I am reading Time and time again by Ben Elton at the moment so that will be number 1 for me.

I'm in. My problem isn't reading 50 books, it is remembering to write down what I've read.

Currently reading Chris Brookmyre's Dead girl walking on my Kindle And listening to The Goldfinch on Audio.

Happy New Year everyone. I'm in too. I'm re-reading The Return of the King, which is the last book in The Lord of the Rings series by Tolkien. I doubt I will manage 50 books but will give it a shot. This book is likely to take me a month to read as quite hard going in places.

I'm in. Thanks for the new thread and Happy New Year southeast abs everyone else :)

Starting the year off with Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Odd reading a play, reminds me of being back at school! Not bad though, so far.

Next up may be Keeping On, Keeping On by Alan Bennett which is massive so may intersperse with other things too so I don't vanish off the thread too soon.
