What motivates you to diet?

I was just wondering what motivates you all to diet? What made you want to start dieting?

Personally my weight has gradually piled on over the years particularly since having children and being at home all day so able to pick at rubbish all day. It is looking at photo's and how disgusting I look that has really motivated me this time.

What motivated you to diet?

I was getting married and went to Scottish Slimmers. I lost 4st between November 2006 and April 2007. Very very easy and felt great.

Have put on 2st over the last 2 years. Would love to be able to motivate myself again but don't know how......

Hi aGalChangedHerName

4 stone weight loss before your wedding is brilliant. You must have felt fantastic. Does it motivate you knowing how easy it was last time and you have less to lose this time?

mummymels Wed 25-Nov-09 14:36:58

I had a real motivator the other day - my four year old son laughed at my tummy and asked if I had a baby in there!

alypaly Wed 25-Nov-09 14:37:53

the expense of having to change my whole wardrobe

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks Wed 25-Nov-09 14:44:17

The comments I get from Slimming World woman if I've gained. Cat's bum face doesn't come close.

mummymels Wed 25-Nov-09 21:02:30

alypaly, I didn't think of that but very true. A lot of my clothes are too tight and I don't have the money to buy more. It's a shame that some of my favourite clothes are stuck in black bags in the loft in the hope that one day I will fit in them again so I so agree with you on that one.

Oh dear StripeyKnickersSpottySocks, I don't know if that is good or bad. Good that it motivates you but not good that the woman at Slimming World is not very understanding.

Doesn't motivate me at all although it should shouldn't it?

I found it so easy last time and i fall off the wagon by Monday every week and i wish i could find that motivation again sad

mummymels Thu 26-Nov-09 18:15:15

agalchangedhername - don't beat yourself up about it, it can be hard. To be honest I dieted for my wedding too. I didn't have as much to lose then but I did lose what I wanted to lose. I have been married over 6 years now and the weight has piled on especially since having children and I haven't been motivated to lose it since even though I need to and I know I did it then. It is only recently when someone told me how easy this diet is that I thought I would give it a go again.

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne Thu 26-Nov-09 18:17:55

my fat arse.

mummymels Thu 26-Nov-09 18:27:32

lol sorry but I had to laugh at that. I should be saying the same really.

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne Thu 26-Nov-09 18:56:46

it was a holiday photo of me and DS, me bending over to talk to him and DP thoughtfully took a picture of my ample behind, and captured two random blokes staring at it.

I should put that photo on the fridge really

SmileyMylee Thu 26-Nov-09 22:07:21

With me it was health issues. I'm an older mother anyway and I wanted to do everything I could to be around to help my DC with their children. It seems to be working - I've now lost 7.5 stones!

MmeLindt Thu 26-Nov-09 22:13:32

Wow Smylie. That is fab.

I lost 20kg (about 3 stones?) about 4 years ago but have put about half back on.

I have a pair of gorgeous brown leather boots in the cellar that I cannot wear because my calves are too fat. Going to bring them upstairs and leave them in front of the sweetie box. I have this pic on my fridge.

Doing ok this week, stuck to my points.

Stars - I think you should post the photo on this thread so we can give you our opinion grin

Onlyaphase Thu 26-Nov-09 22:20:56

DD has just started describing everything she sees - DH is "sleepy Daddy" for example. She has a habit of patting my leg and saying "Big mummy".

Have certainly found it an incentive to keep out of the fridge.

IMovethestarsfornoone - perhaps we should combine your photo on the fridge with a recording of my DD's voice whenever you open the fridge - patent this as a diet aid and we'd make a fortune

mummymels Thu 26-Nov-09 23:36:07

smileymylee - Wow 7.5 stones, that is brilliant. Well done, you must be so proud and feeling so good about yourself.

I love hearing everyone's motivations. I find that really motivating in itself.

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne Fri 27-Nov-09 08:21:10

bibbity - i daren't, it's too bloody awful. I had straight-legged linen trousers on at the time, just to add to the HUGE ARSE effect.

Onlyaphase - I wonder if it's possible to patent your arse?

My inner bitch motivates me, alongside the fat woman on the bus.

*mmmmmmmmm cakes, but no wait, people laugh at her, everyday, she can't fit in the seats, you'll go the same way, they'll laugh at you, put the cake down, down, just let it go, it's gonna be ok, you can have a smoothie instead, look just put the fucking cake down and no one gets hurt*

Also sitting squidging my wibbly bits helps too.

overweightoptimist Fri 27-Nov-09 13:13:12

I have to go to 3 weddings next year, 2 of my brothers, 1 of DH's cousin, and 1 of them is in Japan where people are generally not fat. I would like to look nice and have a choice of clothes. Also DS (3) says "Mummy, you are a bit fat, aren't you"?

So, vanity then.

And I would like DD in particular to be able to learn from me how to be healthy which I don't think I am demonstrating very well at present.

FiveGoMadonTheDanceFloor Fri 27-Nov-09 13:15:26

Selfish reasons. I want to be able to buy clothes in normal sizes and have a larger choice.

mummymels Fri 27-Nov-09 22:18:46

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne - your description is making me laugh but I bet you didn't look as bad as you feel you did.

Riven - I can't imagine a mirror there but I can definately see how that would motivate you. It would me too.

SpodgeMcBiscuit - I like that one!

overweightoptimist - Wow yoou have a busy year next year. Your DS sounds like mine. He asked me the other day if I had a baby in my tummy!

FiveGoMadonTheDanceFloor - ooh me too!

lushlady Wed 10-Nov-10 10:18:36

This one is old but I want to write down my motivation as it keeps me going! Time is catching up and I don't wanna fester like some old lady, accepting that my body has had it and my looks are gone. I want some sparkle back in my life and I want to get back the figure I had when I married my husband. He's shaping up too, not letting him of the hook! I've let things slide and it's time to reverse it. I'm doing celebrity slim and i'm feeling fantastic!

Seeing my mum's fat belly and thinking 'I do not want to look like her NOOOOOOO!!' Thinks 'Paul Mckenna I love you!!'
