Weight loss chat

Anyone up for exercising (virtually) together? (I'm a lazy sod & i'll never bother to do it on my own...)

We could do a different excercise every day and increase reps together. Or maybe follow a programme like this.

I'm starting from total lack of fitness by the way, so i'm thinking quite gentle...

Anyone up for it??

sounds ok but depends whether is an exercise of day kinda thing or a do at a specific time kinda thing.

Hi DEM,

Well i was thinking of just a bit of mutual encouragement to do a wee bit of exercise at home each day. I don't make any time at all for exercise(and I have finally accepted that mooching around streets and parks at the pace of a one year old does not constitute exercise).

As i am starting form nothing, my goals are very modest: along the lines of: "let's do 30 sit-ups today and tomorrow let's do 25 lunges".

I don't really want to do the weigh-ins that are popular in this topic, as i have found that they are counter-productive for me, but i do like the idea of sharing a goal with others. I think i'd be far more likely to do my alloted sit-ups, if i knew someone else was expecting me to do them. I want to feel that i would be letting someone down if i didn't do them.

Does that make sense?

(The idea being that we would check in most days and ask each other how many (press-ups or whatever) we had done each day.

sounds cool. I just have time constraints with fixed times. but think 30 situps is a little optimistic to start - i'd be happy with ten at mo need some serious exercise. And some motivation.

I did about 2 weeks of the EA Sports Active onthe Wii a couple of months ago and was just getting to a reasonable level of fitness when it got really hot and I couldn't face exercising. I forgot to do it for a couple of days and bang...the exercise hit the wall and slithered away in disappointment at my lack of commitment.

I could do with the encouragement of doing something. My lardy arse is getting lardier every day and I've even started to get a muffin top on my muffin top. Not good!

count me in, planning to do davina DVD (had this for 7 months and not done) and gym (been a member for 2 months and haven't been since my induction!) NEED to do excercise as currently weight what i did when i was 38 weeks preggers and my ds is 11 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cool! I thought this was a dud as no one answered at first. A slow burner maybe.

Well what do you all want to do? Rather than each doing our own thing, shall all we try to do the same thing and then we can keep track of progress together? I guess it may not work as we probably all have different fitness levels and have different time constraints etc, but maybe worth a try?

I'm afraid i don't have a Wii (hardly know what it is, we are such oldies), and i can't really jump around for long doing aerobics vids at night (which is my only spare moment) because of all the annoyingly light-sleeping kids around here.

So for me it would be best to do all the weight-bearing, toning exercises like sit-ups and lunges. Increasing the quanitity and moves each day.

How does that sound to you guys?

How about starting with the first four stages of the 20 min workout i posted a link to above? I've pasted them here:

  1. Jog in one place for 3 minutes

Simple light jogging on the spot.

  1. Jumping jacks: 25 repeats

When landing, bend your knees slightly to reduce the impact on knee joints.

  1. Crunches : 15 repeats

Lie flat on your back with your knees bent. Place your hands behind your head with elbows pointing outwards. Support your neck with your hands. Keep your neck in a straight line with your spine. Flex your waist to raise the upper torso from the mat. Lower yourself until the back of your shoulders touches the mat. Muscles worked: abdominals

  1. Hip Bridges : 10 repeats

Lie on your back. With your hands at a 90 degree angle to the floor, lift your body off the floor to form a straight line, a sort of a bridge, from the shoulders to the knee. The position should resemble a table, your hands and legs as the legs of the table and your upper body to your knees as the surface. Hold this position for two seconds. Squeeze your gluteus (butt muscles) and then lower yourself. Muscle worked: Lower back, hamstrings and gluteus.

Sounds good to me if you dont mind the fact i cant run or jumping jack due to bad knees at mo. I have to keep very low impact. Will substitute for a brisk walk approx 15mins if ok, and maybe 3 mins on my stepper. But other then that sounds fantastic, and a good place to start.

We're probably about the same

Oh i see! Hi DEM,

My tummy muscles have taken so much of a holiday that i caught myself wondering if i was pregnant the other day... Then i remembered that you have to have a-bit-of-the-other to get pregnant... So i guess i'm not then .

So pleased you are up for it. Your routine sounds perfect. So are you going to do it today? I will if you will!

I have done 15mins walk and can do some more today though not sure how balanced as after a s#'t day cracked open the vodka on no tea but will give go. Will report back later (might be much later as have to discover a floor first Still in middle of a major clear out. Hey ho motivation for both

Pst i'm not perect so feel free to guilt trip me into doing more exercise if i slip up. else failing that throw a boot.

DEM, are you me? (-floor space issue and comfort tipple.)

Just did my alloted exercise! Scary how shocked my body was at being asked to jog for three mins. I'm so short of time that i tried to tidy the kitchen at the same time. -Upside: easier to jog when distracted by a task; Downside: boiled potatoes got thrown all over the floor en route to the fridge...

Still, i realised afterwards that it really isn't much to do and i didn't actually collapse.

Routine sounds great. Sorry I didn't pick up the responses til today.

I'm going to buy some indoor aerobic shoes otherwise my knees will be seriously shot after a few sessions. I'm ludicourlsy old Parkdweller. And I know the 3minutes jogging is going to kill me for a while cos I can't jog for more than a couple of minutes without collapsing in a heap, breathless and sweaty! Very scary.

LOL at the jogging and doing tasks at the same time. I have floor space issues at the moment as my DH is photographing things for Ebay. Once he's done, though, I'm on for the exercises.

Hi Squilly, v glad you're here. Yeah, i find my own state scary too. How about we decide not to be scared any more, but just get on and do something about it? (In a nice, slow, unscary way of course.

Agreed. I did the routine an am paying this morning with achey bits (especially my legs). I'm away today/tomorrow but will do exercises at hotel. Might go swimming Wednesday/Thursday too.

That's great Squilly, yeah i did mine too. Nice to think it will stop aching soon if we keep it up.

Are you ok DEM? How old is your DS? Is it carrying him around that does in your back and knees? I hope you get some rest tonight and feel better tomorrow.

Sounds a great idea, I hate weighing myself, and this sounds like an inspiring alternative.

Ds is 4 1/2 and it is him sitting on my knee and wiggling back and forth on it that does that in. As for my back -that goes when my knee is bad as i protect my knees by making my back do all the work

I am however been better in that i have managed to do 5 mins my step machine and now have floor space for doing the other aspects later.

Have been very good tonight - got my stepper out and have been mnetting whilst stepping. SHould be doing some work but figure as long as i am stepping i could keeping mnetting might give knees a break in mo and do some situps.

Hey Dylansaunty, Come on in!

I guess you should do whatever you feel is right for you. You'll see that the three of us are doing slightly different things according to assorted ailments etc. I've been doing the exercises linked in my first post and added reverse crunch this eve.

Would never have bothered or even thought of doing it this eve if i hadn't just logged on and seen your posts. -Thanks!

Well, i did the routine that was linked on here, and 2 15 min walks yesterday.
Ill try to do some more today, but might not get the time until this evening.

keep nagging me and i might just keep it up. If I'm left to my own devices ill do it for a day or two then forget.
