Who needs a strict diet support thread?

Jahan · 17/04/2009 08:01

There must be someone else like me who needs a boot camp?
I need rules and a proper telling off if I say 'oh dear,my hand slipped and I accidently ate 6 biscuits' not a 'there, there, you had a bad day.Just start afresh tomorrow'

My 1st goal is to lose 10lbs by the end of May by counting calories and exercising 4 times a week.

Anyone want to join?

I'll join you, I need to loose a stone at least asap and I'll restart my lapsed in the last couple of months running 4km 3 times a week.

I'm going to do it by sensible eating.

Jahan · 17/04/2009 08:31

Hi Furball

I'm thinking of starting running. I've seen the couch to 5km threads and am thinking of doing it.

Do you still run if its raining like today?

I've bought a skipping rope
I read that you burn more cals skipping than running.

I'm also going to drink 8 glasses of water a day and do 25 sit ups every day.

Can i join too - pretty please

I need to lose at least 2 stone , preferably before i do my Race for Life at the end of June.

A boot camp sounds great as i am notoriously bad at starting............then giving up when i see a choccie bar

Report
Jahan · 17/04/2009 09:28

Well, there'll be no choccie bars allowed here (unless of course its an allowed treat as part of your healthy balanced diet )

Well done for signing up for Race for Life. Do you run already?

How are you going to lose your 2 stone? are you following a diet?

Hi everyone - Can I join in too? (You should really say No, as I am one of those that has joined threads so often and fallen at the first hurdle), but you seem quite strict, so I would like you to promise NOT to be nice to me. 10lbs by the end of May seems like a realistic goal, so I am going to join you with that if that is ok. My plan is to cut out all the rubbish and follow WW as best as I can. (I have so many easter eggs in the house at the moment, so am struggling with chocolate), but yesterday I had a choccie free day and felt very proud of myself
I also love running, but have let it lapse over the easter holidays, so will make an attempt to get back into it again. Good Luck everyone.

I'm going to follow this and see how it goes.

I'm following the couch25k programme and have made it (just) to week 5, but am off to the Drs later as i'm sure i have a chest infection which is going to slow me down a bit.

How many calories are you looking to start on?

Report
Jahan · 17/04/2009 11:40

Hi Fimbles5.
You're welcome to join and I promise to be very strict, if others can be the same (I am a bossy first child by nature )

First thing - get rid of the chocolate. Give it to your kids, kids friends, neighbours whatever or give it to dp/someone to hide. Well done on your choccie free day though.

Goblincandoa5k - I've heard people can get very good results on slimming world. Well done on making it to week 5. Did you find it hard? I'm going to start this week.
Sorry to hear about your chest infection.

According to www.foodfocus.co.uk/home.php I need to stick to about 1200 cals. I think its going to be hard but I'm thinking of 300 for breakfast, 300 for lunch, 400 for dinner and 200 for snacks.

Sw is fab - I lost 2 stone last year quite easily however I got complacent before the end and fell off the wagon and have since put 1 stone back on

In fact I may give that menu a whirl, but I'll need to start with that plan on monday, I'll stick with 'healthy' between now and then.

How we all doing?

I bought loads of lovely fresh fruit and veg so snacking and puddings are easy.

Hope I can keep the momentum going long enough to do some damage to the scales. Although the sun shining is really helpful

goblincandoa5k · 18/04/2009 13:42

I had lettuce in my sandwiches - does that count

My dh is printing off that menu and i shall start Monday. Although the 1st part of my dastardly plan i have completed.

I bought some new running gear in a size 16 (currently 18) and i will fit into for my race!

jahan the running is great, although very red, hot and sweaty it does make you. I didn't think i would like it that much, but i do really enjoy it, although it is hard work - but i swear my legs are looking curvier.

Have a great day

Hubby went out last night so home alone Good news - I made a fruit salad to pick at whilst watching TV.
Bad news - After I had finished that I ate everything else I could find in the fridge and cupboard. Why oh Why can I not stop myself
Permission to shout at me.

Furball · 18/04/2009 19:28

oh fimbles - I get like that, it's completely unstopable isn't it?

I try not to have 'it' in the house though it is difficult having children and a husband who like to eat 'that sort of thing'

Hi. Another bossy first child here who doesn't want anyone to be nice to them ... so can I join?

I need to lose about two and a half stone in all but plan to do it slowly through sensible eating and exercise. I started a run/walk programme with a friend just over a week ago and have run 4 times this week (clearly still in the short-lived initial enthusiasm stage!).

My particular weaknesses are wine and anything sweet although tbh I just enjoy food full stop .

Good morning everyone.

Well done Furball. I agree with you. When the sun is shining it makes you feel like eating fresh fruit and veg. Hopefully cravings for stodge will be disappearing now with warmer, brighter weather.

Goblin - I like your idea of buying running gear in a size below. I reckon they'll be nice and loose on you by the end of June if you keep your diet and running up.

Fimbles5 - I get like that too. Its stupid isn't it? There's only one solution unfortunately. You just have to use extreme willpower and just not do it. I actually don't eat after dinner anymore. I have some herbal tea. It is hard to start off with but once you get used to it, it just becomes a habit. The thought of eating crap late in the evening doesn't appeal to me anymore at all. Its just the daytime stuff I need to control now
I bet you went to bed feeling bad? Its really not worth it. Remember that you're going to lose 10lbs by the end of May. Be more strict with yourself (is that bossy enough?)

Welcome Lolabird. Great to have more bossy people on this thread. Hopefully, we'll kick each others arses into gear Are you following a diet/healthy eating plan too? Well done on the running. I'm starting it this week.

I'm starting properly tomorrow. I'm going to weigh myself tomorrow morning and stick to 1200 cals a day. Does anyone else want to do a weigh in?

I was reading an article about how positive thinking is really important to dieting success. It said you should;

  • Visualize yourself eating healthy, exercising and losing weight.
  • Resolve to improve your dieting choices.
  • Hold yourself accountable or find a support group to hold you accountable for your thinking and choices.
  • Practice self-control.
  • Use an exercise and weight loss journal to track your daily progress and reflect on it.
  • Set realistic weight loss goals.
  • Make daily affirmation cards and read them to yourself until you commit them to memory.
  • Visualize yourself in the mirror as you want to look.
  • Surround yourself with healthy, positive people.
  • Respect your mind and your body.

Remember that YOU made the decision to lose weight. YOU are in control.

Jahan - A long post but one that we all need!! Can I ask how you plan to do the calorie counting thing? I would like to give this a go too, but for example have no idea how many calories are in a potato. How do you know, and when eating something from a packet do you just use the calorie amount detailed for the portion size you are eating. Apologies if that is a really daft question
Also, how do I find out my daily calorie allowance. Thanks for all your help.
P.S. Not bossy enough!! You need to be really, really strict with me as you will soon find out

Fimble - I'm going to use this site;
www.foodfocus.co.uk/

I've seen it talked about quite a bit on Mumsnet.
You register your details and it will give you your cal allowance. You can then log in everything you eat and it works out the cals for you as long as you know the weight/portion size of what you ate. You'll initially have to weigh everything until you get used to portion sizes.
Its quite a good site and totally free.

Hi everyone. I did a weigh-in this morning so have a starting weight for our thread. Are we sharing weights by the way or just loss/gains? The bad news is that I'm heavier than I was a couple of weeks ago even though I have been doing a lot of exercise . I know muscle weighs heavier than fat but surely not enought to account for weight gain?

The problem is that as soon as I start exercising I feel like I can ease up on healthy eating/more snacks etc and, like everyone else, we have had a lot of chocolate in the house.

So healthy eating starts today. My plan is to follow Paul McKenna's book and CD - so no particular diet but eating conciously and only when you are hungry. If that doesn't yield results then it will be WW point counting which has worked for me in the past but only for a limited time. Oh, and one definite golden rule - no wine in the week . I am v partial to a glass of vino when DCs are in bed and I'm getting dinner for DH and I. Trouble is not only is it calorific in itself but it also lowers my willpower regarding food.

Well that's my little essay for today - be interested to find out how everyone's first day goes ...

I have been good so far, taekwondo training for an hour, eaten an inncoent veg pot, slimfast shake and some strawberries today! I will be good, I bought some of those WW deserts for when I really need a sweet fix

Hope you all had a good day today.
I forgot to weigh myself this morning. Thats probably a good thing as I may have got a nasty shock. My clothes have been feeling a leeetle bit tight
I don't mind sharing mine. I'll put on here tomorrow.

Colonelcupcake well done on the exercise and diet. Hope you kept it up! (otherwise you'll be in trouble )
Lola - wine is definitely lots of peopels downfall. It will definitely help if you cut it out. Hope you did well today too.

I stuck to my cals today so I'm pleased about that. I went for a 45 minute brisk walk. I'm hoping to start the couch to 5km on Wed with a friend so I'll just walk lote til then.

Anyone else want to share how good they've been or need their butt kicked? step this way.....

goblin it was going to take me til september to lose a stone, I too nearly cried. I tweaked it up from 1 lb a week to 1 1/2 and am now beginning of july, which is much more friendly.

yesterday, well, I was really bad so TODAY was the day. Have been extra specially good and am about to log my tea. Great site.

I forgot to weigh myself again today. I only want to record my naked weight first thing in the morning as thats when I'm the lightest
I will definitely do it tomorrow.

What cal allowance has ff given you?

Have been good today too. I had a small bit of chocolate but logged it and was fine for calories.

Good going Furball and Goblin. keep it going and you'll both lose your stones in no time. 1 stone will make a big difference to your health and looks
