Last week's total was 111391. Didn't walk to school today because we were late. It is the most beautiful morning so going to take DS out now and enjoy the Spring sunshine.

Have a good week everyone.

Last weeks total for me 45,000 - but I think my pedometer has been playing up - walked into town on Friday and altogether spent about 2hrs walking (just in town) yet by the end of the day (and I had to pick DS up from nursery - walking) it said I'd only done 5000 steps......

Then on Saturday walked round 3 large shops (furnture places including an IKEA - and apparently only walked 1978 steps.....)

Anyone recommend a decent pedometer???

I think mine is a pretty good one. It's called a Silva, and I got it at a camping/outdoors shop for about 12 pounds. As others have mentioned, it really makes a difference where you have the pedometer clipped. I've found it's best for me to clip on waistband between tummy button and hip bone (I think I can just about remember where my hip bones used to be! )

Thanks earlybird - any more suggestions -

I'd already sussed the 'position' thing out - jeans best in my pocket (wierd I know) and my elasticated trousers on my waist - just very annoying knowing that I've had at LEAST 2 days where they figures I KNOW have been totally wrong. Doesn't seem to be 'too' bad today so far - but will be able to judge better once I've taken DS to nursery and picked him up again ('should' add another 2000 steps on just for that task alone)

Ooh, this might get me going"!!
Have so much going on ATM and with that and having flu, weighed in at 10.5 stone again last night!!!
Not been running either, just don't feel up to it! I do, however, have a BRAND NEW pedometer sitting on the side! So brand new,in fact, it has bearly been taken from it's package! I need to get my paces measured first!!
Will try to join in if that's OK! ...please...!

My first total is not what I was hoping for: 47221. However, this is Saturday - Wednesday only. I travelled to Holland on Thursday and have been with my parents since and I haven't been wearing my pedometer. This week will be much the same as I don't come back until Wednesday. My mum and I did just go for a walk but we had to race home as DS was freezing. It was a beautiful afternoon for a walk here though. Good luck to everyone this week!

Get that pedometer on, Dingle.

My pedometer was from John Lewis and cost about £12. I chose it because it had a cover on to stop it being accidentally re-set. It also has a strong spring-loaded clip which stays on much better. As a bonus it also measures distance and how many calories you've burned.

My total was higher this week after I changed the position of my pedometer slightly (thanks for the tip!).

he he he....DH is getting his tape measure out of the garage! Can I join in late for this week please?

any more recommendations for decent pedometers - ones that are available online would be great for me as we don't have much 'choice' in our town..

Mine seems to be pretty reliable - I regularly walk the same route and it doesn't vary much how manty steps counted. Its a Proline Sportline one which counts steps, converts it to distance, tells you how long you've been exercising (it stops the timer when you're just mooching around shops slowly for instance) and tells you how many calories you've used (you have to put your weight into it). It also has a security alarm on it, a really nasty high pitched shrill noise. It cost about £20 from John Lewis.

Yet again I came last But since I've had flu, both the kids have been struck down with this nasty high temp, aches and colds so I don't think we've done too badly.

Sorry...late again.
My total for last week was an amazing (for me)
66,203
the most I've ever done in a week [smug]
DS1 starting at pre-school has helped and he's going 4 mornings soon so hopefully that should keep my totals up

Mine varies a lot depending on where I'm walking etc. But to give you an idea, I went out specifically to walk and walked briskly for 50mins, which was 6590 steps or 3.44miles. Don't know if that helps you!

Dingle · 08/02/2005 16:20

Do you just clip it on and leave it all day, or do you only put it on when you "go out walking about??" Sorry for the silly question, but I need to make sure I'm doing this right.
If I keep it on all day, my distance won't be very accurate, will it? I walk differently about the house or walking with dd than I do when I'm out or pushing the buggy!! HELP!!
I've worn mine all day today and it says that I've done 9100 but thatt did include 2 trips to school and back. What is the daily recommendation please?

Gwenick · 08/02/2005 16:22

Dingle I wear mine all day (seems to be working ok today strangely - been into town and it's saying just over 8000 - which would be about correct). Sometimes when I'm pottering (slowly) around the house it doesn't register, but mostly it does and I'm sure that counts - after all it's still 'activity' - I'm not sat on my ar*e LOL

Suggested aim is 10,000 so Dingle, you're doing really well!

Report
coppertop · 08/02/2005 20:08

I wear mine all day too. It makes all those trips up and down the stairs seem almost worth it.

Report
Posey · 08/02/2005 20:31

I only wear mine when I'm out of the house, I must remember to wear it in the house at least sometimes. It'd be interesting to see how far I walk at home.

Report
yoyo · 08/02/2005 21:05

I wear mine from the time I walk the children to school until I bath them in the evening. It is amazing how much walking you do around the house especially as our living room is upstairs and DS has just fathomed out the DVD player!

Report
Tommy · 08/02/2005 21:49

I wear it until I go to bed....and I have been known to walk round the bedroom to bump it up to an acceptable number!
(Still, it must be doing me some good!)

Report
Gwenick · 08/02/2005 21:58

I'm just about to walk down to the local shop - for NOTHING - as if I do I may hit the 10,000 barrier for the first time!!!!

I'm absolutely shattered and just sat down , for the first time today, with a steaming hot cuppa.
Taken ds to school, rushed back home with just enough time to pack a bag and take dd to speech & language session. She has been a little horror again. Just looked at my ped and I was amazed at the total done about 5000 today! It may not be a true indication of "actually walking" but it does show me that I am constantly "on the move!"

I have found this really motivating, thank you for the kick up the backside I even found myself jogging on the spot last night to get myself over the 10,000!

Report
coppertop · 09/02/2005 11:48

Another one here who does the walking up and down and jogging on the spot to increase their total. It's nice to see I'm not alone.

Report
Gwenick · 09/02/2005 11:49

I walk aimlessly round the house, up and down stairs etc etc just to add up my total but then again I guess it IS all 'on the go' so it's better than just sitting on my ar*e all day
