I CAN'T BLOODY DO IT!

ChuffChu · 20/01/2017 19:47

I want to.

I'm disgusted by myself, repulsed even.

I don't want to puff about my own house groaning to bend down to my two young children.

I've done slimming world, Atkins, 1000kcal counting.

And I lost a bit of weight when I was following them. But I gave up and got fatter.

I eat when I'm not hungry, I cram food into my face when it already hurts from being so full.
Why?

I cry every night. I know I don't want to be like this.

Please someone come along and tell me there will be 'A MOMENT' when it all fits in to place and I can do it.

Of course you can do it! Anyone can do anything they want.

Go and read the dietdoctor.com follow his twelve or so principles and come back in a month and tell me then whether you are doing it or not.

If you make it hard it will be.

The best Meme I read this year was something like "You are going to be very disappointed if you are waiting for someone to come along and fix your issues in 2017. There's only one person that can fix them and that's you"

If you are waiting for a load of messages where people will tell you the lightbulb moment will come at some point you are just making more excuses and putting it off more! Start now and do something about it Wink

I hear you.
I really hear you.
Disgusted and repulsed with myself but yet can't stop.
It's so hard.
Even when I'm actually doing it and losing weight it's not enough and go back to eating badly and putting on more weight.
I don't have any advice but I'm giving you a virtual hug and telling you you're not alone.

GlitteryFluff thank you Smile

Grin I kinda was!

I don't know...I was just sort of hoping that I'd have a lightning strike moment in the light of the fridge.

I think you just have to decide you want to do it and actually do it. Why can't starting this thread be your "moment"?

It is hard to stick to a healthy eating plan and there will be good days and bad days, but if you follow a sensible plan you will lose weight. There's a lot of support on here. Have you talked to anyone in real life?

Yes you can!

I am 41. Overweight or obese since age 11.

I tried so many, many times to lose weight but for some reason, I sabotaged myself every single time.

It took a serious amount of back pain to snap me into the "if I can't lose weight now, I'm in pain for life" train of thought and, that in mind, I joined Slimming World in January 2016. I weighed 20st 3.5lbs.

Today, 12 months on, I weigh 12st 12lbs. My BMI is close to being healthy. I didn't even have a good grasp of what "healthy" was 12 months ago.

Honestly OP - if I can do it anyone can.

Try the virtual gastric band app. It's an app you listen to and it somehow hypnotises you to stop eating before you are full and only eat when you are actually hungry. There is a fb group too

Before you try and change your eating, change your shopping. Make sure you don't have stuff in the house that you're likely to binge on.

Biwi, flipping husband fills the house with crap. I have asked and asked him not to.

I hear you, OP, I'm there too. It takes so much brain power and emotional energy to be on top of it all the time, and at the moment I just don't have any.

I am also on the virtual gastric band app. Only cost £5 , no great results yet but I am eating far less than I used to and hardly ever snack. I used to eat all the time.

Been to all the slimming groups but never with the right mindset. For the first time in my life I think that this will work

Change your shopping list - you can't binge if you don't have the food in.

Change your habits - when do you usually eat? Get busy during this time - walk/book club/knitting/box set/housework etc

Drink at least 2 litres of water a day. Feeel the urge to binge? Drink water instead.

Make small sustainable changes and set yourself a long term goal for Christmas or next summer. Expecting to fix your eating habits with a fad diet in a month isn't going to work - you need to change your lifestyle, one step at a time, not just your diet.

Don't want to hijack...But it was the title that drew me in. I need to lose a stone and a half. Started just after Christmas. Doing dry January so very significant alcohol reduction. High protein, low carb diet and sticking to it. Reduced sugar. Increased veggies. Walking 30 mi items a day at lunchtimes during the week and longer at the weekends.( Previously no exercise at all).
I have gained half a pound! What the actual fuck? Feel like giving up.

Weight loss is entirely psychological

You need to understand the root causes of your overeating

Start by making a note if your emotions before you eat, and then after. See if you can spot a pattern about what's causing you to cram your face.

Is there any way you can make it harder to get to the food - put it in a padlocked box so you have a moment to pause and decide if it's really what you want to do?

"The beck diet solution- train your brain to think like a thin person " is also a good read

Disclaimer - I'm not thin. I'm a good size 14 because I'm greedy.

I am reading your thread, wearing a pair of size 10 cut-off shorts (which I've had to put a belt on) and eating a rice cake slathered in peanut butter.

This time last year I was a size 16.

There was no special moment. There was no short cut. I didn't tell anyone that I was going to do it. I just got up one day and decided I was going to do it. I changed everything about my diet. I didn't cheat. I didn't take days off. I didn't 'treat myself' for doing well. I just got on with it. I started exercising every day. No days off. No "ahh well I'll do a bit extra tomorrow". I just didn't quit. I kept myself busy. I didn't talk about it. Some days were really hard, still are, and I want to eat cake and not go running but (and here's the secret) I don't eat cake and I do go running. And that's it.

Sometimes I think actually it was more fun being fat and eating cake.

For me if you can get the morning right the day goes better. Protein protein protein switches off the hunger and cravings.

I totally understand OP. People can say to clear out your cupboards, join SW etc all they like but if you are an emotional eater/binge eater it is SO HARD. I know exactly what I have to do to lose weight but there is a huge mental block that stops me. I get stressed or upset or tired and I just eat and eat though I am not hungry. Even if I feel sick with fullness. It is my only comfort and as hard to stop as any other addiction.

This year I want to tackle it and be more healthy. The first way I am doing this is to look at mindful eating and binge eating. It has been very interesting. I fit the emotional/binge eating description to a tee. I have got a couple of books about emotional eating and I am working through the exercises. So far it is hard but I am beginning to recognise when I am stress eating and I am learning to listen to my body and only eat when my hunger reaches a 6+ on the hunger scale. Once I feel I can do that automatically I will start cleaning up my diet

I started logging everything on my fitness pal, I didn't particularly diet but once I started seeing the huge amounts of calories that were in things I started making different choices, once I realised a Jaffa cake was 50 calories I stopped at 2 instead of 12!!
I then started going to the gym. Was hard at first and only did 5 minutes on each machine etc but 5 months later I ran a 10k race.

I relaxed over xmas and unfortunately the sugar monster has me in its grip again, I need to do a week of cold turkey on the sweet stuff and snacks to try and reset myself again as before xmas I wasn't craving stuff and could eat a biscuit or a choc with out wanting more

Well done SantasLittleMonkeyButler!!!

Here's the thing, every week I plan a menu. I buy the healthy food, cook it all from scratch sometimes in bulk and then have every meal planned and ready to go.

And then...I go fucking mental. It's like I'm not even thinking about it. I even at one point this week, because I didn't feel like walking to buy a ton of junk food, I ate a whole pack of butter BlushBlushBlush

I didn't even feel hungry,

I didn't get it. At points through my life I used to be addicted to smoking, drinking and cocaine.

I quit all of those things cold turkey years ago and never looked back.

So I know I have some will power. It just seems to desert me where food is concerned.
