As title says have done SW and WW...had good results but again need to lose 2.5 stone. Cant afford lighter life and it sounds grim! What else works? So miserable being overweight...just not miserable enough to stop stuffing my face!

Definitely don't do anything like Lighter Life, losing weight is about lifestyle changes, it isn't about a quick fix solution.

I'm losing weight by inputting my calories into Fitnesspal. Also doing the Shred but this is to improve my fitness levels and tone up rather than lose weight.

What do you find boring about ww and sw?

I am going to cut out snacking and try to eat 3 filling meals a day. Plus walk 3 miles every day. I start on Monday.

How about low carbing? If you have a look at dukan diet/atkins/idiot proof diet. You don't have to limit wuantities of proteins, no measurements, no points. And it works long term as well.

You just have to give up pasta/bread/wheat/cakes/carbs/crap. Grin

Yeh, low carbs is just not me...Smile
I am 35 and I have been on a diet since I was 19. I have been 16.5 stone and 11 stone...currently about 14 (I'm 5" 8). I'm just bored of living this merry-go-round of eat, binge, diet, guilt. I know what to do it's just the part of doing it that's hard. I thought a new diet would inspire me a bit....

I am going to try LighterLife in March. I've spoken to a few people that have lost mega amounts of weight using it so I'm hoping it'll kickstart me into better habits.

bubbles have you checked out Paul mckenna ? i could not recommend it highly enough, I've maintained my nearly 3 stone loss with Mc. and he actually RE-EDUCATES yr attitude to food which it sounds like you need.

Please don't go on LL 'cos I've heard from a reliable source that it gives you bad kidneys also the weight is bound to go back on even more when you stop the fake food diets.

Ppeatfruit...I have a Paul McKenna CD and I like listening to it, but it hasn't done a great deal for me. I think I have been battling my weight and food issues for so long I have got into the mind set that unless I am following a diet it won't work. I am all or nothing! I used to take Reductil until it was banned and it was amazing...it was like my food thoughts had been turned off...I just ate when you are meant to eat, it was the nicest relief I've had from myself!

Bubbles - I'm doing www.guardianeatright.co.uk. Lost 2.5 stone so far. Not sure what you didn't like about ww/sw - this one makes you lose weight at a sensible rate (1-2lbs per week) - which you might find boring BUT I haven't cut any food group out of my diet which was important for me. (except industrial quantities of cake)
Would really avoid anything like lighter life, it is not a long term solution. Good luck

Thanks Rooble, I'll have a look. Just bored of thinking of food in terms of points, syns, red, green or orange! I know the maths really...eat less, move more. Simple!

The thing I found really helpful is that it tells you what to have for each meal exactly. Especially when you're getting started it was really helpful to know eg you can have 60g of pasta & 30g of cheese and - whatever. I'm doing GI which makes you feel full.
If stuff like soup feels like a v small portion (serving is usually 200ml) try serving it in a smaller bowl.
Because the snacks are generally savoury you need to focus (i filled my evenings with physical activity - nothing more exciting than ironing - just to keep my hands and brain occupied) for the first week to get off the treadmill of sweet cravings, but they really do disappear - the snack is always a filling one so you really feel no hunger.
The other thing I found was that by sticking to my chosen alcohol allowance per week (3 units), I fairly quickly lost taste and tolerance for alcohol which was the v last thing I'd ever expected! Now really enjoy one glass of wine but can't cope with much more!
Exercise we've done as a family: my DH has been v supportive (knew I felt crap about myself) - I swim/gym in the week but at weekends we go walking/cycling all together. Tend to go to a cafe for a treat after, and while dh and ds have sausage and chips I feel virtuous and have jacket potato and baked beans or soup and a roll.
Really good luck with it, it's a fabulous feeling to catch sight if yourself in a mirror and really like what you see! X

Not really sure why people pay so much for SW/WW - combine myfitnesspal with moderate (low GI) carbs.

"Yeh, low carbs is just not me...
I am 35 and I have been on a diet since I was 19. I have been 16.5 stone and 11 stone...currently about 14 (I'm 5" 8). I'm just bored of living this merry-go-round of eat, binge, diet, guilt. Until you cut out pasta / bread / wheat etc you are going to stay on the merry-go-round. High GI carbs are addictive. Don't have to do low carb (ketosis) but do need to ditch all the high GI carbs, and yes wholewheat bread still high GI.

Yes i agree forever But I know you are familiar with P.Mk. as is bubbles It's the best 'cos i combine it with the blood type (eating exactly what suits me) so as an A type i'm not good with a lot of protein I eat low carb. Not wholewheat I cut out all wheat 'cos it gives me const. but I'm good with oats.rye, spelt, quinoa etc.

The best thing is NO WEIGHING, or CAL COUNTING or FAKE FOODS I suppose some people need that type of control. P.M. works 'cos yr body controls your food intake not yr emotions. Have a proper go at it bubbles we've a very supportive thread on here see you there?

I totally agree with forever and others.

The changing your mindset and getting off the refined carbs treadmill is probably the biggest favour you can do for yourself.

The fact is that you don't have to weigh, measure food, count points of eat fake food, I think that is the thing.

I had a moment of madness a couple of weeks ago - determinedly wanted to drop 2 stone within about 2 days (I exaggerate but you know what I mean Grin) and tried Exante, which is just a cheaper version of lighter life. It was REVOLTING. The soups tasted milky and had a metallic aftertaste, the bars ditto, and it was just a depressing experience of eating chemical slop. Yes it would have worked but if I had stuck to it it would have been just for an end goal, and I would have probably celebrated my weightloss by going out for a pizza Hmm.

ppeatfruit · 19/02/2012 09:16

Well i follow my blood type which obviously changes according to yr blood type I'm an A type and do DO eat carbs but oats, quinoa, and whole rye bread and whole rice. O types SHOULD eat good meat (not pork though). The name of the author is Dr Peter D'Adamo if you're interested a lot of people lose weight on it but it's more for health.

The Hay diet is good in that you don't eat carbs with protein and that's a brill way to eat IMO.

Getorf is really giving the best advice (not the exante bit Shock

You don't need to eat diet foods or weigh stuff out, just make sensible chices for permenant lifestyle changes, refined carbs, our snack/junk mentality and alcohol are the biggest reasons why we as a nation are hugely overweight compared to other countries (and yes I realise this is a generalisation)

and move more, whenever and wherever don't make excuses about why you can't exercise just do it.

I have struggled with my weight for the 1st time ever in the last 18 months, yes my thyroid failed so that could account for some of it but in the cold hard light of day I had been using junk food and alcohol to cover up my general unhappiness in life.So I am making changes back to where I was 18 months ago and voila,4 nights last week of not drinking, eating what I wanted when I was hungry and not because it was a particular time, eating smaller portion sizes of "normal" food, stopping when full, have not been able to exercise too much as half term and I have lost 2llbs,not a huge amount I grant you but I have had cake for mothers birthday and cheese and all normal foods. It will take a couple of weeks for my stomach to shrink slightly, to realise it does not need big portions, just normal sized ones.

I only get on my high horse about this as my dm yo-yo dieted throughout my entire life, she gave me real issues with food,I have been borderline anorexic at times and now she can't keep any weight off or eat hardly anything as she has completely (scuse my french) fucked up her metabolism, she is 70 next birthday and she dieted from the age of 19 :(

That sounds like DIY Paul Mckenna ! QuietOh The other thing that makes yr stomach shrink on P.M. is eating slowly and consciously.

Cambridge Weight Plan. Half the price of lighterlife and essentially the same. I've lost 16lb in 3 weeks so far! It's not as hard as it sounds and the counselling helps you change your mind set to healthy eating.

I am trying SW but its not working for me and I AM NOT CHEATING. I lost in the first week but not for the next two so I am trying Nutracheck. Basically its an online diary and calorie counter. Input you personal details and it tells you how many calories you should eat to loose 1,2,3,4 lbs. I need to eat 1400 to loose 1 - 2 lbs so I input all food eaten the previous week on SW and was eating about 1800. That told me what I already knew - I am eating too much of the right food! SW say you cant eat too much of the 'free foods', I can!!

I am doing the 5 day free trial and am stickling to the 1400 calories, which isnt as hard as I thought. I am eating SW free foods but LIMITED quantities. My scales show a 2lb loss but I will weigh in with SW on Monday for an official weight. Dont ask me why I pay £5 for a stranger to weigh me, but I think it keeps me on the diet knowing I have to stand on those scales!!

Also I love sport but sport alone does not mean slim, it means a fat person works harder! I do an hour of hard sweatty sport a day yet am still a stone overweight. I have friends who would get a taxi to their car and loose 2-3lbs in a week by dieting and they keep it off, and eat chocolate... HOW??

Has anyone else tried Nutracheck?

I've been doing Rosemary Conley for a couple of months and really like it - I really feel like I've changed my eating habits and that I can continue like this, rather than feeling like I'm on a diet. I've lost 1.5 stone so far.

I couldn't be doing with any low carb/pro points/red day/green day nonsense.

Mindy A stone overweight is not fat IMO, too thin is not healthy. I found the weight dropped off me when i stopped doing daily cups of coffee or normal tea and daily avocadoes (i still have them once a week same with coffee and it doesn't affect me). Oh and Paul Mckenna changes yr ATTITUDE to food BTW with no cal. counting, weird diet non foods syns or anything like that.

i'm using ww online.. have used www.weightlossresources.co.uk in the past - like you i know the maths but it takes the daily diary-keeping for me to keep my stupidly large apetite under control.

so.. back to the ww points online... i'm losing 1lb per week... it's slow and boring but it's better than gaining 1lb a week and at this rate i'll be a happy bunny by the end of April.. no fat summer for me Grin

go on, get your positive pants on and join me Wink
