Snow watch - November.

So we have will it snow/won't it snow this weekend now Grin

The answer is probably yes, in places. Perhaps some over Scottish mountains Thursday night, then Friday night it could cover further south into northern England and Welsh hills. Snow showers though, so some may escape any precipitation at all.

Saturday I think the greatest areas at risk are down the East coast through to Lincolnshire. Perhaps parts of Norfolk too. However, many areas could be at risk, so I guess, be prepared.

It is going to be bitingly cold with the met office going for sub zero 'feels like' temperatures in the middle of the day even in the south.

Snow forecasting is when it gets really difficult. Hard enough to predict exactly which areas will get a rain shower on a showery day, people tend to really notice when you get snow wrong! This is where I also remind people I'm purely an amateur and its best to take what I say with a huge pinch of salt as I do get things wrong!

Yay OYBBK. Well, expecting to say not v ladylike things when I let the chickens out of their coop on Saturday morning... And the same on Sunday morning! Winter coat and gloves to the rescue (although that morn run I always do in my pjs!). ? for us with snow or sleet or rain. It's guaranteed to be cold though!

My mum (in Aberdeenshire) may get first snow of the season. Doubt I will get much in Surrey but you never know.

Yay, a Snow watch thread!

Think we might get the odd flake this weekend but that'll be it.

Hello, I have never been on a weather thread before Grin my phone is telling me it's going to snow in London on Saturday or Sunday ( it can't make its mind up) please tell me it can't be true!

Report
nannynick · 18/11/2015 21:39

It may be true. If it settles is another matter. It my be sleet, rain, or a total non-event. The closer we get to the weekend, the better the weather predictions, though they will always be a prediction.

UK twitter snow map is wonderful. Rather missed it these last 3 snow free winters.

Conflicting scenarios this morning.

GFS model goes for Scotland, northern hills and then a narrow band of snow extending from from Liverpool down to the IOW eventually. Take this with a massive pinch of salt.

Met office keep any snow again to northern hills and then a wintry mix of rain/slet and snow mostly down the east, with most likely area for snow I think in Yorkshire and perhaps Lincolnshire.

As is often the case, the closer we get, the more disappointing for snow lovers it gets. But fear not! It is only November.

In any case its going to be very cold and rather windy. Big shock to the system.

By Tuesday temperatures move to around the November average, so cooler than of late, but not cold.

I got my hopes up when I saw there's a weather warning for snow but no, we're under the one for wind Sad Still think we might get the odd flake this weekend but we've got the joy that is gales as well. Saturday is looking very brrrrrrr!

My iPhone app is showing snow for Saturday in ascot but met office isn't. I'm going with my iPhone Xmas Grin

You are right Gloria - people think that warnings mean that is where the snow risk is confined to, where as actually they are where snow may be disruptive. A few flakes of snow are not generally disruptive.

I do wonder if that finger along the eastern side will be extended further south though down to Lincolnshire.

I have Eco7 heating and it is so uncontrollable. Will need to think about when to turn it up so it stores more heat... maybe overnight tonight if cold weather is still predicted for Surrey/Berks border area for Friday afternoon/evening.

Does not sound promising for snow where I am... maybe sleet.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/11/2015 09:30

stupid weather! It looks like a lot of the risk area is really really borderline and away from high ground the balance of probability is for sleet and rain instead of snow.

But it is November. Early days.....

North west. Gone v cold compared to the last few days

Its almost sleet here in s Yorkshire. It's thick rain if that makes any sense. Currently 6/7 degrees according to dashboard on car.

Hoping we don't get snow tonight. Got w bit of a do to get to and a bit of driving involved. And my trusty old ford focus is being traded in for a 4 x 4 next week so it will be really ironic if I get snowed in tonight. Which is the first night out in about a year.

According to dm it's snowing in County Antrim Envy
