Don't get fooled by the lovely sunny weather and put out all your bedding plants and what not. Just looked at the forecast for the week after next (Easter hols) and at the moment it is showing a step change to much colder weather ( with some welcome rain but the small possibility of some rather unwelcome snow)

It's a bit of a bugger. Silly weather, should be cold and wet this week and last and save itself for the hols.
Going to be a real shock with temps in the single figures at best by the Wednesday. Of course gfs could be wrong.

Ooooh dear. Tomatoes are close to flowering and just moved into greenhouse. Hopefully Inanyothersoil's sacrifice will work.

With all this lovely weather, I'm having to stop myself going off to buy bedding plants. It's easy to forget that frost and snow is still possible at this time of year.

Arf, got a bit excited and spent the day washing all our wintercoats and winter woolies.... Have packed them all away carefully. Do I need to dig them out again???

I would never put my bedding plants out until after Empire Day (24th May). My Mum said not to, her Dad was a head gardener at a castle, he would know.......

Empire day..... That's not a bot of lore I've heard before.

Behind, quite possibly.

Wynken - blimey, am I really behind? Mine are still seeds!

No, I'm just ridiculously early, it's part of a work thingy. A bit of an experiment, probably destined to fail!

Right you have all just confirmed what I thought was happening everywhere else except for Edinburgh..........
You've all got sunshine and stuff?......haven't you! Envy
Today, we reached the dizzying high of 8C.
No sun, just haar.
Putting winter coats away? Wearing it more like....... < strops off in the huff >

OYBK - thanks for the warning. I feared this might happen.

SoMuchToBits - The old sayings about weather are always still true. The one I live by is similar to yours:

"Ne'er cast a clout 'till May is out."

It is going to kill a lot of fruit blossom and young bedding plants for sure. I have resisted planting our hanging baskest for this reason. We had frost a week ago after a warm day with a clear sky. Lots of peope will be going to the garden centre and planting out this weekend I suspect.

The fruit blossom is a bummer. Our apple tree is quite late and should be ok but the pear tree will blossom soon.

Oh no! My apple tree looks like it could easily blossom in the next fortnight.

If I threw a duvet cover or a sheet over it at night would that be enough to protect it?

I've just got back from 2 hours weeding at the allotment. Very light ground frost at 8.20 - Hertfordshire.

24th may would be madly late here. I will be sowing plants and veggies in the ground by middle of April. I'm just holding off putting my potatoes in.

LaurieFairyCake · 25/03/2012 10:11

The apple trees on the allotment blossomed 2 weeks ago and look beautiful now.

Wish, at the moment the gfs model has it around 6c with light rain.
