Julip Horses

Does anyone remember these?

I used to have loads when I was little, I had all the stables and horseboxes to gow ith the sets too.

I have just got a one of them out of my mums attic for DS. Hes 20mo and loves horses. He has been carrying this one round with him all day and suspect he will be going to bed with him too.

He loves coming to see the horses with me and calls all horses "heidi". Its so nice that he is sharing my passion but even nicer that he is playing with toys that I used to play with years ago.

cedmonds its noce that our children can enjoy them too isnt it.

TooMany The price was and still is ridiculous. I asked my mum today why she let me have the £90 horsebox? She just shrugged and said that what you wanted. Jeez DS wont be getting a £90 MDF box on wheels! I just googled the Magpie ones and they are actually nicer, more realistic looking.

Oh and half of my Julips have had their manes pulled read hacked off with scissors.

I used to make them all rugs out of old T-shirts with matching neck pieces/hoods bandages etc.

You can buy them online from Julip, or ebay.

I used to get them from Robinsons (before it burnt down) or the bigger horse shows.

Id have a few horses to ride in the lorry or stables but still loved going getting a new Julip spoilt brat

I wanted the Cindy horse and trailer. Wasn't allowed. Nearest I ever got was My Little Pony.

Yeah its really nice> My late grandfather made me stables and jumps with tools and a wheel borrow all out of wood. So its really special that he loves playing with them. I used to have to rugs etc for them i thought they came with them. I was never allowed the horse box !!

Right that's it. I'm going to not pay the mortgage this month get me a Julip, phone in sick to work and spend the day bandaging it's legs/plaiting it's mane and tail and trying on various rugs.

Wonder if dh would knock me up some stables and a horsebox?

I had some Julip stables and a barn, some rugs that came with them but they never fit properly did they? Mine used to have all sorts of fancy rugs that I made, well to me they were fancy, they were just old clothes.

Then my mum had massive yard built for me by the local hardware shop man. It had about 20 stables, fields, a school, all with really nice fencing etc. It took up a whole corner of my bedroom and I loved it so much. It was painted really nicely too.

I had the big green horsebox. I honestly dont know how they could have justified buying me that, its daft money.

I had fun this afternoon sat in my mums garden playing with my old favourite one. It was a show pony type julip classic. Its tail is really long and its main has gone crunchy where you can tell ive put something on it years ago to keep it smooth. I was tempted to go and wash and condition the poor thing.

Er, I was at Robinsons last week (was where I bought the famous back protector) and they had Julip stuff there. I was looking at the little headcollars etc thinking they were a bit pricey!

I had Anna and Happytime, he was 'poseable'
(well until the stand broke which it did every 5 mins, I lost count of the replacements I had to get)
I still have them somewhere with all their outfits/cavalletti etc. Happytime had a stable in my room but I had to make it myself from a large cardboard box. Was pretty good though, it was covered in that fake wood wallpaper that was fashionable in the 70s, he had a filled haynet and some haybales made from hay pinched from the rabbit hutch and a straw bed (pinched from field at the back of our house furtively while walking dog and cut up with scissors), and a separate tack/feed room. And his rugs did fit!

Yes its been rebuilt/fixed or whatever. I havent been for years though.

My mum was laughing at me with DP this afternoon because I used to make my mum buy persil tablets so I could get the free mesh bag that came with it. They were about 3 inches so were perfect for haynets!

Then I used those little hook on rabbit food dish things as over the door feed buckets!

I had Sindy horse with stable and trailer, he was beautiful and brown like Barney but without such a gorgeous big star or golden dapples in summer.

Ooh, I had Julip. I had a bay and a palamino and a set of stables and some jumps. I used to make them bran mash out of readybrek. I gave all mine to my cousin when I was 19 and she was 5, we spent all afternoon playing with them and she still has them. Dd is so getting some when she is a bit older.

I bet theres a big gap in the market right now for affordable realistic models.

Ones in showing/dressage/jumping poses with all the associated tack and kit.

We didnt have them in my day! (old gimmer alert!) (36) I had a sindy horse, he was dapple grey. I plagued my mother for months for him, and it had to be grey! He was lovely, and he went everywhere with me, even after I rolled on him in bed and broke his leg off!

Pah! Sindy horse, my sister had that, she was jealous of my Happytime. I think it's still a sore point with her .

I had a beautiful black Action Man horse. He was called Bandersnatch (well, he was to me). He was more feisty and stallion-like than Sindy's grey, which was what I told my mum I wanted.

We have a very old horse complete with cowboy owner that someone gave to me for the dds.He still has his original feed bucket and I think he dates from the late 50's early 60's.

I inheritied my uncle's cowboy and indians plus horses when I was little.Sadly I lost my favourite piebald galloper in the hayfield at the bottom of the garden.I don't know what happened to the rest of the set,probably lost the same way.The dds collect those Schelich,[sp] horses and currently have a stable and paddock set up in the livingroom.I swear that there has been enough money spent on plastic horses in this house,to buy a real one.

Julip have split the company into two parts. Julip Originals which are more for collectors - they are made of latex with moveable legs including wire which is unsuitable for children
The other part of the company is Julip Horse of the Year these are more solid chunky models marketed through Farmtoys more suited for young collectors
OP -you might want to go on ebay and see how much vintage Julip Originals are selling for. You will be retrieving yours back from your son :-) (presumes that is what you have. The HOTY models don't make quite so much money)

No I only have one julip original. Its legs have gone soft and are splitting and cracking. So not worth the money.

The others are the more solid ones, one of which's tail has fallen out.

honestly even if its a bit dilipadated people pay silly money I've seen legless ones fetch good prices on ebay. Honest.
