The litter tray

Does anyone else’s cat supervise them cleaning their litter tray?

Toots is a lazy cat. You can barely get her out of bed sometimes

Yet every time I go near her litter tray to scoop it or clean it, she’s there like a shot.

She won’t leave until I’ve finished doing what I need to do.

It’s almost like she needs to approve the change before she will leave

Yes my cat always watches me clean it. And then gets straight in it to poop afterwards...

Mine used too when she was alive! It was like she was very territorial over her mess and wasn’t happy that her human was getting rid of it. On the other hand, if we were away overnight or out for a long day she would become infuriated that her tray hadn’t been cleaned (we used to sometimes clean it twice a day or at least lift out poo when she’d done one) and she’d refuse to use it. It was as if she was thinking, “there are now TWO poos in my litter tray and I cannot put my pretty paws in there until it is all gone. Hmmmph.”

If she was in a particularly huffy mood she’d sometimes supervise then immediately pee in the tray as soon as it was changed. She had to have the power lol.

I miss that snobby little diva.

Yes our fluffy one likes to roll about in the clean litter, bloody dirt bird. But then she also goes completely crazy after having a 💩. She has that crazy cat moment (minutes actually) where they skitter about like lunatics

Mine don't supervise, but Cheddar gets straight in it as soon as I get home. Or anyone visits. Weird cat.

Yes!! And also like to try and scramble in the rubbish bag in emptying it into. Then they are very vocal telling me all about how they're going to use the new litter

No she’s not

She’s a Maine coon cross British short hair.

Yep. Girlcat tries to jump in while I am scooping.

I think they imagine that I am a bit slow to get the hang of using it myself.

It's not unusual for one of mine to come and do a dump while I'm cleaning the tray. I'd swear the little sods smirk at me when they do this.

Yes, and as soon as it’s done they want to use it. I’ve seen Toby practically straining a few drops of wee into a fresh tray. They are very territorial about their litter trays.

I could swear I remember a naming thread for her as a titchy butterfly-eared kitten!

Yes, the girls like to stare intently and then christen the new litter. The girls don't even use each other's trays but still supervise as a double act.

If I'm emptying it completely one likes to jump in during the 5 second wait for it to be refilled and look as though she's desperate for a wee but is oh so neglected she doesn't even have litter. When she was a kitten and in 24/7, so it needed washing regularly we had to invest in a second tray for her.

Yes the pixie-cat supervisors she sits on the loo watching us clean it out but she also supervisors if we go to the loo she sits on the side of the bath watching us,more than once I've heard my partner shout 'if you don't move your head I'm gonna piss on it' she gets up too close and personal for his liking

Haribo does come over for a look but he's more interested in watching me wash the dishes. If only he would do it instead of picking up tips.

Yes, every time. And tries to get in it as I’m doing it. 🙄

Sparklingbrook · 07/02/2020 07:56

Yep. And if she isn’t watching already as soon as she hears the new cat litter being poured in she feels the need to use the tray. Angry

One of mine once peed in the empty tray when I took too long binning the old litter...

Boy cat usually supervises and then immediately goes for a fresh litter wee Angry

My little tortie was called Toots and I've never heard another cat called that before. Sadly she died whilst I was on holiday last year. I was and still am devastated.

She didn't supervise me but her tray was in the bathroom next to my toilet so when I got up in the morning and had my first wee, she would be on the litter tray having hers! That's when I knew I was a sad cat lady.

@Chesntoots I’m so sorry, they leave such a void don’t they?. She’s so beautiful.

She meant the world to me, but it's rather nice there is another little Toots running about out there looking absolutely gorgeous!
