My little boy who was only nine months old took ill on Sunday. Turned out he had FIP and I made the decision this evening to have him put to sleep Sad I can't believe it.

He was a rescue kitten found starving at the side of the road next to his dead mother, he's had such a short life. He was the most gorgeous, loving, happy little cat and he's gone Sad

I am sure the short time he had with you was the best time of his life. You couldn't have done anymore for him. I am really sorry for your loss.

That's awful, you did what you could & fip would've made him very poorly in the end.

It was the right thing to do for him. Flowers

Thanks. I spent some time reading up on the condition which I've never heard of until today, the prognosis was very poor so I didn't want to prolong things for him. I'm trying to console myself with the fact he had a lovely life with me and he didn't suffer too much but it's all happened so quickly.

All his toys are lying round the living room and I keep expecting him to walk in.

I'm so very sorry to hear this. I remember your previous posts about your gorgeous boy and I think you posted a photo you took shortly after you got him which was heartbreaking to see.

We can all see how much you cared for him and what a good life you gave him. He was able to experience what it felt like to be a much loved pet, albeit for a short time, something he would never have had without you.

Yes Icequeen he was like a skinned rat when he was found last summer. Such a shame he had that fighting spirit only for this to happen to him.

Thank you all for your lovely words - I have two other girls giving me cuddles which is giving me consolation even though they hated him Hmm Time for a big glass of Wine

Thanks all, just feel drained and shocked. I'm not in the UK and the veterinary advice here can be inconsistent so I didn't really know what to believe today. Fortunately the vet speaks perfect English and explained the condition in great detail so I could make an informed choice.

I'm so so sorry for your loss... I had to have one of my fosters pts three weeks ago...same story, found as a very sick kitten with his two siblings, starving, semi sighted due to eye infection with cat flu and a bad heart condition.. He developed seizures and despite meds I couldn't get them under control. Vet decided he had FIP which was causing all his problems and he was becoming v sick v quickly. It was very hard but now I take comfort in the fact that he was loved and cared for and we gave him a good if short life. I know it was the right decision and it will have been for your perish one too. What I find hard now is the anger I feel at the irresponsible person who didn't neuter/ protect his Mum, he and his siblings didn't stand a chance.
Thinking of you with understanding and sending you hugs

Flowers I'm so sorry. Hopefully you'll soon be smiling over his life well lived and kudos to you for taking the difficult decision to have him sleep in peace rather than suffer. It's a very hard thing to do.

Yes he was a little bugger and a proper 'Simon's Cat'. He would steal anything not nailed down including my dad's credit card.

Potential sorry about your foster baby, how heartbreaking x
