I would love one remember seeing one as a child

Maybe m future but would need to consider exercise requirements

Saucery Sun 28-Jun-20 12:31:23

They are just fabulous, aren’t they. ❤️❤️

Soubriquet Sun 28-Jun-20 14:05:13

They are!

I once worked at a rescue that had a wolfhound cross Great Dane pup in.

He was 9 months old and already a massive beast, so friendly though.

I always remember him because I went to go and walk him, he was so excited he crouched down as I walked in to the pen, then stood up so I was backwards on his back. He then started to walk off and I had to shout someone to stop him so I could get off and walk him! grin

I remember watching an old spy film called Eye Of The Needle years ago when I was a child (not entirely suitable for the age I was iirc!) and Donald Sutherland’s character acquires 2 gorgeous wolfhounds that follow him on moody walks along a cliff. Have had Wolhound Envy ever since then but when I got old enough to have my own I discovered their relatively short lifespan and couldn’t bring myself to own one for that reason.
There are Lurchers around here that look a bit like mini-wolfhounds though.

frostedviolets Sun 28-Jun-20 15:53:28

discovered their relatively short lifespan

Relatively?!
Their lifespan is criminal!
As is their list of other health problems.

I’d put them in the same category as Cavaliers and dobermanns and negatively judge anyone breeding and to a lesser extent buying them no matter how striking they may be.

Ylvamoon Sun 28-Jun-20 16:14:22

... most XXXL breed dogs have a shorter life span.

frostedviolets Sun 28-Jun-20 16:19:40

Not necessarily.
Anatolians for instance are up to 15 years, Pyrenees around 10.
Both are roughly the same height as a wolfhound.

The wolfhound is imo in a worse state than other giant breeds.

It’s not just the tiny lifespan.
The breed is in big trouble.

@Soubriquet thanks. I missed this thread!
How did I even miss the tag! blush
@StillMedusa they fold up small.
Bit of a derail but lots of work is going on to work on health issues. I know quite a few 10 year olds. And even a couple of 12 year olds too. But no. They don’t live as long as little dogs. sad

Wolfiefan Sun 28-Jun-20 16:24:59

Mine

Saucery Sun 28-Jun-20 16:31:40

Oh Wolfiefan, they are adorable!

mogloveseggs Sun 28-Jun-20 16:32:40

Aren't they gorgeous! Don't think I've got room though

Wolfiefan Sun 28-Jun-20 16:34:36

@Saucery puppy had me up at 5:20 and knocked me flat on a walk today! She’s only 8 months old. We are working on manners. grin

Saucery Sun 28-Jun-20 16:47:06

Look at her, I’m sure she didn’t mean it! grin

There used to be one round here, reached a good old age of about 11 iirc. Absolute sweetie.

Saucery Sun 28-Jun-20 16:48:46

Deerhounds are also lovely.

JesusInTheCabbageVan Sun 28-Jun-20 16:51:32

First photo looks like a doggy 69 set up for mutual fart appreciation grin

Veterinari Sun 28-Jun-20 16:52:11

I love them. Deerhounds too.
Can't get one til health stuff sorted though

IHaveBrilloHair Sun 28-Jun-20 16:56:26

OMG, they are gorgeous.
I'm in no place to own a dog, ever, but I di love seeing other proples, and these are just adorable.
V jealous WolfieFan
Actually, you used to scare me a bit but you were so lovely when I losr my Zazzles last year and I'll never forget that so thank you flowers

Wolfiefan Sun 28-Jun-20 17:01:19

@IHaveBrilloHair I remember your loss of Zazzles. I hope you’re doing ok. TBH I’m probably better with animals than people. I know where I stand with them!
@JesusInTheCabbageVan grin Raw tripe farts. Grim!!

Soubriquet Sun 28-Jun-20 17:27:04

Does puppy still have a lot to grow?

They don’t stop growing till they are 2 do they?

If that’s true it looks like she outgrow big girl
