3 year old Labrador, a resuce... weve had him since 18 months old.
Started with D and then began to vomit on Sunday morning, vet called out and gave pain relief and anti sickness jabs, contined to be ill so in the vets on Monday morning where hes been since. They tried to do an xray but the barium meal didnt work as he kept being sick, thought he had an obstruction as hes a bugger for eating things he shouldnt so they opened him up yesterday - no blockages

hes still being sick, on a drip, very weak, bloods seem clear, vet has no idea but says he knows of 2 other dogs presented like this and sent to the centre in Newmarket, neither made it home :(

Oh, how awful Sad Your vet was a bit off saying that, if there's no diagnosis, although they may have been trying to prepare you.

Hope he recovers x

How awful to have no idea. Do you have the finances/insurance to move him to a specialist facility if he doesn't turn a corner soon?
A second opinion might be helpful.

My dad has been to see him (we share him since my parents dog died last year and dad walks him etc) he didn't recognise my dad or able to get up.

I suspect nitrate poisoning. I phoned the farmer who does the fields next door and they sprayed nitrogen 3 weeks ago and again a week ago. She was very defensive, understandably but he hasn't been any where else but there at the house and around the fields.

has the vet administered intravenous methylene blue do you know if you suspect nitrate poisoning?

Report
OnlyWantsOne · 04/04/2015 09:37

Not nitrate poisoning. His blood is red not brown and tox screen negative

He's at the new market centre now having an MRI. They suspect some thing sinister and neurological. Probably will be PTS whilst under general from the MRI

Dick whites in Newmarket who are fantastic, had 2 other labs with similar symptoms admitted this morning. I hope that the autopsy brings some answers and they can be saved. I know of 3 dogs who have died of similar in a year local to me.

It must be something environmental? Sad

Oh god, how awful for your poor dog, and you and your parents too :(

Hope the post mortem reveals the cause - sadly too late for your dog but hopefully may prevent others going through the same thing.

UnMN hugs ((())))
