Do poms always have short noses?.
A friend commented our pom can't possibly be a full pom as she has a long nose. Doesn't matter either way just I am curious now.

Tia p.s excuse the mess I'm cupboard sorting before Christmas Xmas Smile

No idea, but she's very cute, looks like she's enjoying 'helping' you. Xmas Smile

She looks sweet, but, she doesn't look much like a Pom to me...

Did you not meet her parents and get paperwork with her?

Looking at the depth of mouth and length of nose she looks crossed with a JR but she is cute. She does nto look like show lines as coat all wrong, what age is she in this photo? Doesn't stop making her the most perfect dog in the world :)

Definitely doesn't look like a pom, there's something almost sheltie-ish about her face and ears.

Presumably she didn't come with papers but did you see the mother's papers?

The Pomeranian is part of the very large and varied Spitz family. I have a German Spitz and we've met all sorts of other poms and spitz dogs and they all have their similarities and differences. But generally its the pointy ears and curled over tails, and the double layer coat. She looks bloody lovely!

Thanks. No didn't see mum or receive any papers. She definitely has the curled tail of a pom. She is 16 weeks in this photo.

She seems to have two layer's to her coat also longer bits in areas. But if she is pom she is at the right age for her puppy coat to be thinning.

She's a very merry little thing with a nice nature so very happy with her.

She doesnt look anything like a pom puppy bar the colour tbh.her coat hasnt got the volume a pom pup should have and her nose is very long.like the above i think she looks very like a sheltie.
How did you not see her mother?its very very unusual for a reputable breeder not to show off the mother when your viewing the pups...id be very worried you may have been scammed by a puppy farmer.

Gorgeous pup btw she looks like a real sweetheart and i wish you the best of luck with her...but not like a pom.

I bought her from somebody who had previously brought her a few weeks earlier.

I will look up what a sheltie looks like, not sure I've seen one Xmas Blush .

She's beautiful Smile
Looks a bit like our dog with the long nose - poms do have snub noses. I'm not sure what ours is, a mixed breed with a pom tail and people have suggested JR because of the nose.

she is just gorgeous but she is definitely not a full pom .how much did you pay for her?

ooops just read your last post. sounds like a classic puppy farmer scam. what reason did they give for selling?

Report
lemisscared · 20/12/2014 23:26

thing is. so long as she is happy and healthy then its actually fine.

i paid £250 for a crossbreed that the "breeder" claimed to be a border terrier cross. I took one look at mum and knew she wasnt full border terrier but they had done everything else right. wormed.first vaccination. insurance in place. I don't think they were being deceitful just thought their bitch was a border. mated with her Fathers Patterdale. my dog is 8 now and is pretty much a heinz 57 but i luffs him.

She is gorgeous! Here is a side view of my JRT. Very similar but I reckon yours has a bit of sheltie too which might account for her lovely fur. She's is beautiful Smile

Family problems was the reason for selling they did say they had brought her elsewhere but had a pom similar colour to her and another which looked a little like a bichon or similar.

We paid £300. Doris and heman, both very cute dogs there.

I'd have said Sheltie at first glance.

I tell you what though; she's absolutely beautiful.

This is my Pom on the right, he's nearly 5 now but at 16 weeks was losing his puppy hair and I too questioned whether he was actually a Pom. It took a good few months for his proper full coat to come through and although I have his coat cut short, he definately is a Pom. I've seen some with longer noses, and like pp said poms are part of the wider spitz family so vary widely. I'm sure in a couple of months she'll have her full coat Smile

The show poms do not have snub noses but pointy ones and are a tiny breed.
I always watch Crufts and recently a Pom won the best of the Toy Dog group and he/she was gorgeous and a real favourite with the crowd when shown with all the other and bigger best of breeds.
You will find the show poms on You Tube Crufts Toy Group.Smile

To have bought a show quality pom would have cost you much more than 300 and you will love yours just as much.

Here's our pom, he has quite a little nose and is very dainty. Can't comment on the coat as we were given ours when he was 10 months old, with a full, luxurious one. He did cost £1500 as a pup, and whilst just short of show quality does have loads of presence, much like the one at Crufts, though sadly not the delightful nature.

She is beautiful. I have a 16 week old staffy/JRT cross. But mine has a very staffy face (but one JRT ear and one staffy ear!) I would guess your pretty lady is JRT cross too - used to work in kennels and remember a few shelties - that nose not quite the right shape, but similar. That said with any cross, all bets are off. It would be interesting to see what your pup weighs vs a pom of the same age?

Lokibuddyboo · 21/12/2014 16:15

I would have said looks more like a sheltie than a pom from your pic.
Beautiful pup though and I'm sure you love her just the same what ever breed she is.

Thank you all.
We are very happy with her, she loves cuddles so is perfect for the dc.

She has changed colour so much since we have had her so I definitely think she is losing her puppy coat. It will be interesting to see what colour she ends up. She had lots of black which is now only on her ears and tail.
