OK, I know I said I'd never start a thread in the Doghouse but

seeing as this is fairly innocuous I'm going to.

I just bought my dog this and wanted to share how bloody fab it is. It looks great, dog loves it and best of all no smell. I've searched in the past for a fully washable dog bed and not found one so dog had an old duvet instead. But I worried that even doubled over it wasn't thick enough/comfy enough.

She now has this;

I also got her a fitted spotty fleece cover for it to make it soft for her. They do all different pattern fleeces but I don't see them on the website. I got ours from a stand at a country show.

Very, its like a campbed. Its meant to be especially good for older dogs with joint problems, arthiritis. There's no pressure points on the dog.

My Lab might like one but my 2 GSDs would be scared of it!

Fortunately they all sleep on my sofas and beds so they don't need anything else although they do have dog beds in the kitchen just so they can avoid anything hot and dangerous when they follow me in there.

I thought our greyhound might be scared of it but she isn't. She's not allowed on the bed or the sofa. Though she does sneak on the sofa and dd's bed if she thinks I won't notice.

DH has a very sensitive nose and a hatred of any doggy smell so I worry that if the sofa started stinking a bit then he'd start ranting.

I have a babygate now for the living room to stop her but if I forget to put it up then as I open the front door she comes bolting out the living room and races to her bed in the dining room and is curled up on there in 3 seconds flat pretending she's been there all day.

Ditto if I forget to shut DD's bedroom door. I open the front door when I come home and there is a clatter from upstairs followed by a greyhound bolting down the stairs and making for her bed.

Apparantly the greyhound trust get these beds for their dogs. So the woman on the stand said anyway. She had 4 whippets all snuggled up on beds and they looked very comfy.

Yes, she denies all knowledge when I ask her......even though the bed/sofa is warm.

You can get replacement mesh covers quite cheaply but they look very strong and the metal legs/supports look very sturdy.

my old hen still going strong btw. she is now famous at the vets and the vet nurse who mainly looked after her has said she can no longer eat chicken

Aw - I didn't know that was called roaching. My lurcher boy loves lying like that as well (that is when he's not surfing the worksurfaces or leaning on some poor soul pleading for affection ).

We have a baby gate between the kitchen where the dogs' beds are and the living room - but darling lurcher lad can sail over the top of it like a youthfull gazelle should the mood take him. We tried getting one of the extra tall dog gates early on - completely pointless - 5ft and he leapt it as if it wasn't even there.

Back to the topic. I've looked at those beds a few times, but we'd have to get an enormous one, as my two would insist on lying on it together and I don't think we we have a room in the house that's big enough for that. They are a great idea though, the lack of pressure points thing really makes sense.

Yes, I do think they're especially good for bony dogs such as lurchers, greys, whippets. Our grey is good and doesn't jump over the baby gate even though she so could.

To be fair, our boy only does it very rarely these days. We spent a lot of time reinforcing staying on the right side when we had dd, as I was really worried he'd leap over and land on her and he's quite a big lad. Needn't have worried though - he is so gentle around the dcs and has never once jumped over when there's been a child on the other side.

We are having an extension next year and I think I might consider a hammock type bed for them then.

Just come back from a walk to find one of the cats on it. Ct refused to budge for the dog and dog was getting very upset. I had to turf the cat off.
