I wonder how many children have a birthday wish of a new bed?

I'm crying now and thinking about the life they escaped from and still how little they have now.

I had to share a bed with my sister when I was growing up, and she wet the bed frequently.

Lovely girls.

Mum isn't malnourished is she?

I'm watching. It's amazing how happy a couple of beds made the children

I wonder how you could get involved in supporting a family like this without TV involvement?

Watching it now. How thrilled are those girls with the beds!

Okay they are not starving, but their quality of life is pretty crap.

kissyfurschaos · 30/07/2009 21:28

hf128219 maybe thats becauase of costs of stodgy food asnd carbs being cheap and filling and she can't afford lots of fruit, veg and lean meat.
Both families are lovely so far.

Yes, she probably is malnourished. She's not slim but I bet she can't afford to buy nourishing food
The looks on their faces is so amazing when they receive the cheques. I wish I was rich enough to be able to give someone something like that

Bizarre comment HF128219. Having lived in South Africa, and having met a few people from Zimbabwe, you'll find their staple diet consists of mealie pap, which is full of carbs. About half of black women from SA and Zimbabwe are quite stocky.

Both families seem lovely, very down to earth.

DD really wants a new bed. I can't afford one, the one she has is second hand, and knackered, but, I am lucky in many ways.
I have a two bed house, just for the two of us, I have a garden, the house backs onto the woods.
We don't have much, but we do have the net, which gives us loads in terms of saving money and support.
We're even having a holiday abroad this year because of it.

I watch these programmes (secret millionaire is another one), and wish I could help, and then I realise, financially I have no more than they do, I just got lucky not to have to live where they do, and to have been brought up in a middle class home.

It was a general comment in response to her son's comment that when he is hungry he has to wait. That was all.

Rich or poor, both families must be so proud of their lovely daughters

How kind are the rich family. Sending them a table to eat on.

Anyone else feel slightly uncomfortable with this "relationship" - the generous benefactors and the grateful receivers? I applaud the idea and both families are lovely but, I don't know, it just sits a bit awkwardly with me.

hink Sharon and her girls are fabulous, BTW

I think both families understand what they are doing. I don't think their relationship is all about money either. Both can learn from each other.
