Hmm can't wait to see the male swimmers - purely so that dd and ds get inspired of course blush

I always end up really getting into some obscure sport - well, one i don't know that wel.

Like power lifting or some sailing one where the sails are a bit shorter than the ones in the other race or some weird cycling thingy where they go slow, slow, quick quick slow.

Oh yay! Two weeks of watching sports I would never take an interest in normally: bring on the women's greco-roman wrestling and table tennis!

NoBiggy Sun 03-Aug-08 21:01:26

I do love a spectacle. What time are events going to be on? And what time is the opening ceremony on?

chonky Sun 03-Aug-08 21:01:40

Absolutely! There's a girl from my year at Uni (I know her I do ) who's in the rowing. V.exciting.

I am! Since I'm awaiting the arrival of my baby and therefore doing sod all except sitting on the sofa anyway, it will be ace to get involved in all the random sport that I couldn't care less about the rest of the time.

Favourites are gymnastics, pole vault, and in the winter pretty much any ice skating.

MaureenMLove Sun 03-Aug-08 21:02:09

I am. I like the track and field and the cycling best.

RTKangaMummy Sun 03-Aug-08 21:02:09

same here

re odd sports

grin

The 7 hour time differnce is going to be a pain though

southeastastra Sun 03-Aug-08 21:04:04

i'm mean cause i compare our gymnasts to the russians grin

MaureenMLove Sun 03-Aug-08 21:04:30

Is the opening ceremony on in the evening (their time)? So it'll be lunchtime Friday.

RTKangaMummy Sun 03-Aug-08 21:05:00

opening ceremony starts on Friday @ 1pm uk time but programming starts just beforehand

Does anyone else get a lump in their throat seeing the Union Jack carried in procession?

smile

Cos there is is 8pm on 8th day of 8th month in 2008

grin

RTKangaMummy Sun 03-Aug-08 21:06:00

We should be first in the line up of countries iirc as we are the next nation

smile

I like the gymnastics and diving.

I don't know what the plan for the TV coverage is but I hope they don't show it all in the daytime - I only get to watch TV in the evenings!

Gizmo Sun 03-Aug-08 21:10:17

I've got my eye on a couple of people I know vaguely who are competing...so women's javelin and rowing are firmly bookmarked in the Gizmo household.

RTKangaMummy Sun 03-Aug-08 21:16:20

The BBC1 coverage is from 1.55am until 4.30pm

allgonebellyup Sun 03-Aug-08 21:19:54

i love the gymnastics, exciting for dd as she was there at the competition when the GB team was picked, so she "knows" all the gymnasts and has briefly spoken to them all.

MaureenMLove Sun 03-Aug-08 21:22:34

Greece is always first, because that's where it all started. <<geek emoticon>>

RTKangaMummy Sun 03-Aug-08 21:26:31

stupid me

yes i knew that

blush

It is the end ceremony I was getting confused with

When we are last

<<<<<<durrrrrr>>>>>>

RTKangaMummy Sun 03-Aug-08 21:33:16

The Aussie team are angry cos they are going to be near the end of the parade as the chinese name for Australia means that it comes near the end of their alphabet

mrsmalumbas Sun 03-Aug-08 21:34:20

Sorry, I feckin' hate the olympics. Complete waste of time and money in my book I'm afraid.

denbury Sun 03-Aug-08 21:36:45

love it. i to like watching the weird sports and get very excited when we get close to getting a medal!!!

MaureenMLove Sun 03-Aug-08 21:47:08

Yes, I look forward to seeing our part in the Closing Ceremony. I wonder what we'll do, that really signifies the UK. I just bet there's some Pearly Kings and Queens in there somewhere!grin
