Scarborough - pleasantly surprised!

I watched all four episodes last night and really enjoyed it. It's by the same man that writes Benidorm, which is a guilty pleasure of mine though I gave up a while ago!
This seems to have a bit more drama and a bit less silliness, though Is definitely still very silly, and was just really lovely and fun to watch. Good music too, all Housemartins and Beautiful South!
Anyone else love it too?

I'm enjoying this comedy It's got some laugh out loud moments.

Me and DH are really enjoying it. Gentle comedy/drama and good music.

We're loving Claire Sweeney as the dreaded Hayley. We both remembered at the same time that there was a woman on our cruise in the summer who looked exactly like her - big hair, tight jeans and heels, and that's just when she was sight seeing Smile

I've just discovered this. Wasn't a Benidorm fan that didn't appeal at all as that just seemed silly but I binge watched the 4 episodes so far and enjoyed.

I do like Jason though and I LOVE Maggie olllerenshaw (can't get a better northern name than that can you?!) particularly loved her in house of Elliot but as Geraldine the machinations she's getting herself in!!

We are big fans of Scarborough as well, both DH and myself are finding it hilarious, lots of really good one liners. Geraldine is fabulous and just love the decrepit hair salon that hasn't been updated in 40 years.

Yes I have been enjoying this too. Love the occasional shots around Scarborough itself.
Agree about the one-liners. My favourite was when the elderly Mum (Stephanie Cole) was relating how a cat had got in to her neighbours house and shat in a dish of steak he had been about to cook. "He had to throw half of it away" Grin

Geraldine's salon and the pub are priceless. The small town feel of everyone knowing everyone else is great.

Scarborough looks amazing too, it is a great showcase for the town. Like Doc Martin is for Cornwall.

More please!

Enjoying this too.
It reminds me of the conversations between Ena, Minnie and Martha back in the last century's Coronation Street.
Tonight's howler:
Waitress :"It's Chardonnay. It's very popular, locally".
Geraldine : "So was Saddham Hussein ".
Priceless.

@toooldforthisshirt37 DH and I think that they must have shot all the outdoor scenes on the same day, the director saw the sun out and decided to do every single outdoor shot before the clouds and rain came back. To those from Scarborough I'm joking Grin

I saw the one referenced above which made me laugh, but on the whole it felt like a very very low rent attempt at a Victoria Wood comedy. I haven't watched any others.

DH , myself and 24 yr old DD2 love this. It just feels right somehow. Hope they make another series .

It's got stronger as the series has gone on. MsMighty I disagree - it's classic observational northern comedy, not specific to Victoria Wood. We've all met people like the characters, etc. Early Doors was in the same vein.

winhedharpy wasn't it Pinot Grigio and Gadafhi ? 😂 i'm enjoying it as we hokiday there a lot and they're showing all the lovely bits. Geraldine is fantastic and i love Jadon Manfords humour. The scene with the Estate Agent! I think they're make Catherine Tyldesley a bit more dowdy than she really is though.

😊 @Chosennone, It may well have been, but you get my drift.

Ha last time I checked this thread there were no replies!
I totally agree about the northern humour and it comparing to Early Doors. I've from the other side of the PenninesWink but it's just spot on! Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling Smile

Thanks to this thread, I watched all the epis this afternoon. Loved it all, laughed a lot, and Stephanie Cole is a fave of mine. I don't know England too well and those views of Scarborough are stunning.Smile

I watched this series and the last episode last night.
I really enjoyed it, a bit daft at times but mostly easy to watch.

I love Stephanie Cole in this, and the old man next door - just hope he's not stringing her along.

Geraldine is priceless, so typical of some of the old fashioned hairdressers.

I was disappointed we were left on all those cliff hangers and didn't realise there is a second series. Does anyone know when it will be shown?

BBC have decided against a second series.

Ahh that's a shame, I didn't even realise it was the last episode as didn't feel like things were winding up.

The soup in the 1st episode had me howling Grin
