I was a bit disappointed Sad Thought they did that classic thing of veering away from the usual format and missing the mark.

I was SO looking forward to it as well. I love Silk.

I thought I had put too much whiskey in my hot toddy and missed something (actually- I did. A good, well resolved ending).

I did enjoy Silk up to tonight and was looking forward to a well put together finale- though am glad that Martha & Clive never did really get together. What wound me up ( i know, i know.. it's only a mini series ) was the emphasis on the prosecution and the pervading attitude towards defence though, especially at the end Sad

I am a bit Confused about the last scene!

I was half expecting Billy to drop the bombshell of Clive shagging Harriet in chambers during the election. That would have wiped the smug grin off her face.

Where did she go?

So are we supposed to surmise that she took Mickey's advice and did a runner then? Buggered off back to Bolton? What a weird ending!

They'd better make another one!

There's nowt planned according to Wiki

They're not making anymore, that was the last ever episode. It was announced last week.

There are three afternoon plays on Radio 4 set in the clerks' room though. First one is tomorrow at 2.15 - no RPJ though, sadly.

Why did she have to run? What was all that about? Really liked the series but the final episode was pish. I loved Martha but it was as if they couldn't decide who she was. Did a man write it?

I also loved the series and expected a better final episode.

I loved the series but I got a bit lost as to what Micky was up to and who the monk family were and who Shaun was and why Micky was working for the police and why Clive was being more of a knob again and what happened to him and Martha (glad they're not together though) etc

Chillie I was really really hoping that too Grin

Me too Jazz. Really love Silk but that was a crappy last ever episode. Why did Martha need saving? Did she not see what Clive got up to with super annoying clerk lady? Can a jacket really just turn up in court without any forensic analysis being done to verify it is the victims blood, which side sleeve blood is on etc? Why did Clive get that lady to take it in? The actress who played the part of the annoying clerky/managery woman was so bloody wooden! Either bent over staring at a computer screen or giving Clive 'I'll bend over for you right now' eyes. That was it.

We're they thinking of another series when this one was done? Would explain oddish ending.

Maxine Peake is a super actress and I hope we see her in other stuff soon.

Neil Stuke fab actor too and the deliciously wicked Frances Barber, they can do more good acting deeds elsewhere.

Really disappointing I thought - it just seemed like they ran out of ideas and couldn't be arsed to tidy up loose ends. Fair enough if they were planning another series but since they're not it would have been helpful to have everything in order - and that ruddy Harriet woman needed her smugness removed, ghastly character! I felt let down by it all really, such a shame.

Some people are saying online that Martha killed herself by jumping in the river but there is just no way I'm buying that. The Martha we know and love would not have thrown herself off that bridge I'm not having it. Apparently the writer Peter Moffat said there was was going to be a shocking twist so that's why people are thinking she committed suicide.

Welshwabbit · 01/04/2014 10:13

Also, where she was standing, it's not a bridge. It's the embankment. You'd have to be bloody daft to try to kill yourself by jumping off there. And whatever else Martha was, she wasn't bloody daft.

Very confused....

I loved Silk but it was always silly. The finale surpassed itself.

Yes, where did Martha go? Unless she made a grab for the passing bus.

And I agree about the jacket. Evidence does turn up at the last minute but surely they'd need to examine the blood on it to find out whose it was rather than just saying it was the victim's.

Martha would insist on that, just like she'd ask for an adjournment to consult her client about it. I guess she'd also introduce the amazing last-minute appearance of damning evidence like the gun and the jacket and question where it had come from and whether it was all a set-up.

And people kept speechifying and making accusations in court and the judge rarely pulled them up on it. Does that really happen?

Also, I thought Billy did proposition Amy for sex. I thought he was doing it so he could prove to himself that he was still a man. I found that in keeping with his character. But then they changed it.

I also think that in a situation like that the chambers would reject Amy's application and stick with Billy whether they thought he'd done it or not.

Report
ChillieJeanie · 01/04/2014 13:02

I think Billy was aiming to get Amy to vote for Martha in the election for head of chambers limited. The election was looking tied, getting Amy a place in chambers would give her the casting vote in effect, so the quid pro quo would be that if Billy get her in, she would vote for Martha. Only he never got the chance to get that far because she made an excuse about meeting her boyfriend when Billy put his hand on her knee.

Chillie, that would make sense! I also thought that he was testing his manhood but I think you are right.

Report
limitedperiodonly · 01/04/2014 13:38

Didn't think of that chillie. I thought Billy would be smarter than that and blunter about what he wanted. But, yes, that would be possible if he didn't get the chance to explain.

Even though he was a bully in other ways, and had a crush on Martha, his sudden perviness was a bit jarring. But I put it down to a panic over losing his virility because of his treatment.

Report
limitedperiodonly · 01/04/2014 13:41

That doesn't make sense. What I mean that he wasn't a lech but that I could go along with the idea of his character becoming so upset at being unmanly that he might become one in a mad moment, given that he was a bully anyway.
